In the almost 192-year history of the Zauner company, which dates back to 1832,
countless specialties have been developed for special occasions. As the year of
the “European Capital of Culture 2024” approached, the Zauner family was certain
that an extraordinary, sweet temptation had to be created for this unique
(cultural) event in our rural region!

Just in time for the start of the Capital of Culture year 2024, Managing
Director Philipp Zauner presents the sweet specialty for the Capital of Culture,
the “Europatorte 2024”.

The creation reflects Zauner’s interpretation of “Europe” in a double sense,
based on the Greek mythology surrounding the goddess “Europa”:

Ingredients from all over the world are combined in Bad Ischl to create a sweet
temptation and then sent all over the world. Almonds from California and Turkey,
chocolates from Africa and Central America and salt from Austria are all used in
this unique cake creation.

Philipp Zauner: “The gathering of the most diverse ingredients of the highest
quality, which are combined by hand in the heart of the Salzkammergut to create
a great dessert and then sent to the most diverse countries in the world,
clearly reflects the great European idea in our eyes. Internationality through
import and export has always been a top priority in the region. At the same
time, an important part of our identity can be found in our new creations: salt
from Hallstatt, which has shaped an entire era and region and is an important
part of our identity today.“

The “Europatorte” from Konditorei Zauner combines soothing orange notes with
fine creamy caramel and delicate chocolate coating.

In addition, the precious salt from Hallstatt can also be found in a
melt-in-the-mouth romance with caramel in the salt and caramel truffle balls
created for the European Capital of Culture.

The cover of the sweet creations shows the goddess “Europa”, who was abducted to
Crete swimming in the form of a bull by Zeus, the father of the gods. The cover
was designed by Bad Goisern illustrator and graphic designer Wolfgang
Menschhorn.

The products relating to the year of the “European Capital of Culture” are now
available in the online store of Konditorei Zauner at www.zauner.at and in the
two Bad Ischl cafés.

In der beinahe 192-jährigen Firmengeschichte des Hauses Zauner, die bis in das
Jahr 1832 zurückreicht, wurden schon unzählige Spezialitäten für besondere
Anlässe entwickelt. Als das Austragungsjahr der „Europäischen Kulturhauptstadt
2024“ in greifbare Nähe rückte, war sich die Familie Zauner sicher: Für dieses

Pünktlich zum Start des Kulturhauptstadt-Jahres 2024 präsentiert Geschäftsführer
Philipp Zauner die süße Spezialität zur Kulturhauptstadt, die „Europatorte
2024“.

Die Kreation widerspiegelt in doppeltem Sinne die Interpretation „Europas“ durch
das Hause Zauner in Anlehnung an die griechische Mythologie rund um die Göttin
„Europa“:

Ingredienzien aus aller Welt werden in Bad Ischl zu einer süßen Verführung
vereint und wiederum in alle Welt versendet. So finden Mandeln aus Kalifornien
und der Türkei, Schokoladen aus Afrika und Mittelamerika sowie Salz aus
Österreich ihre Vollendung in dieser einzigartigen Tortenkreation.

Philipp Zauner: „Das Zusammentragen unterschiedlichster Zutaten von höchster
Qualität, die im Herzen des Salzkammergutes in reiner Handarbeit zu einer
großartigen Süßspeise vereint und wiederum in die unterschiedlichsten Länder der
Welt versendet werden, widerspiegelt in unseren Augen eindeutig die große,
europäische Idee. Die Internationalität durch Import und Export wurde in der
Region seit jeher großgeschrieben. Gleichzeitig findet sich in unseren neuen
Kreationen ein wichtiger Teil unserer Identität: Salz aus Hallstatt, das bereits
eine gesamte Epoche samt Region prägte und heute ein wichtiger Bestandteil für
uns ist.“

Die „Europatorte“ der Konditorei Zauner verbindet wohltuende Orangennoten mit
fein-cremigem Karamell und zarter Kuvertüre.

Darüber hinaus findet sich das kostbare Salz aus Hallstatt auch in einer
zartschmelzenden Romanze mit Karamell in der für die Europäische
Kulturhauptstadt kreierten Salz-Karamell-Trüffelkugeln wieder.

Das Cover der süßen Kreationen zeigt die Göttin „Europa“, die von Göttervater
Zeus in Stiergestalt schwimmend nach Kreta entführt wurde. Die Umsetzung des
Covers stammt vom Bad Goiserer Illustrator und Grafiker Wolfgang Menschhorn.

On August 9, the groundbreaking ceremony for the hotel project “Grand Elisabeth”
took place. The new city hotel will contain 132 rooms and is projected at 37.5

“The Salzkammergut is one of the flagships of tourism in Upper Austria. The new
hotel ‘Grand Elisabeth’ brings important bed capacities and thus additional
tourism impulses not only for Bad Ischl, but for the entire region. All the more
gratifying that the concrete implementation of this lighthouse project is now
starting”, represents economic and tourismProvincial Councillor Markus
Achleitner on the occasion of today’s groundbreaking ceremony in Bad Ischl.
“Investments in the tourism industry have a high multiplier effect on jobs,
income and value creation due to their close links with the regional economy –
both during construction itself and then during ongoing operation. This is all
the more important in these challenging times,” says Landesrat Achleitner,
underlining the great importance of the 37-million-euro hotel project.

132 rooms expand tourist offer in the Salzkammergut from 2025 onwards

The future hotel “Grand Elisabeth” will include 132 rooms and suites. It is
scheduled to open for business at the end of February 2025. “The new hotel will
enrich the tourist offer not only in the ‘imperial city’ Bad Ischl, but beyond
that in the entire Salzkammergut. It is designed to appeal to classic
vacationers as well as create new offerings for convention tourism.” emphasizes
Landesrat Achleitner. “The entire region will benefit from the year-round
operation, for example, shuttles for ski tourists to Gosau and the Feuerkogel
are also planned in winter,” emphasizes Landesrat Achleitner.

“We are pleased that Bad Ischl will get an additional, urgently needed hotel in
February 2025.because thedemand for overnight accommodation in the upscale
4-star segment in Bad Ischl is great,” emphasized Mag. Herbert Ackerl on behalf
of the investors from the owner company Bad Ischl HE GmbH on the occasion of
today’s groundbreaking ceremony.

“As the Zauner family, we are immensely pleased with the groundbreaking of this
so important project: For almost 30 years, tourism experts and representatives
of the municipality have agreed that Bad Ischl urgently needs more beds. Now the
foundation stone is being laid. We are trying to create a house with which we
can identify in the long term and which will be managed with just as much style
as we do in our existing Bad Ischl establishments”, underline Philipp and Josef
Zauner from the confectionery Zauner Bad Ischl, also shareholders of the owner
company Bad Ischl HE GmbH.

From September 2023, 132 rooms of the future 4-star hotel will be built, as well
as the hotel infrastructure, i.e. restaurant, vinotheque, seminar rooms,
wellness area with sauna and indoor pool, fitness room and underground parking.
Designed as a convention and tourist hotel, the hotel will be open year-round
and offer spacious standard rooms as well as upscale suites.

The location of the Grand Elisabeth, right next to the Congress and Theater
House, is ideal for seminars, congresses and events and offers a perfect
complement to the existing premises, which host operetta festivals, musical and
theater productions, ballet and dance shows, as well as concerts by
international stars of jazz and pop.

Bad Ischl was the summer residence of the Austrian emperor. The historic
imperial villa naturally shapes the historical image of this city. Many historic
villas and buildings make Bad Ischl a hotspot for historians and history lovers.
Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi) have made Bad Ischl world
famous, of course also through the Sissi movies. And the Empress Sisi, as the
namesake of the Hotel Grand Elisabeth, embodied by the world star Romy
Schneider, is encountered at every turn in this wonderful city.

By the way, the original carriage from the Sissi films by Ernst Marischka will
decorate the entrance area after completion of the hotel. The 120-year-old
vehicle was purchased at auction in 2020 by the Zauner family together with
Herbert Ackerl and Josef Öhlinger. It was restored and returned to its original

neue Stadthotel wird 132 Zimmer beinhalten und ist mit 37,5 Millionen Euro

„Das Salzkammergut zählt zu den Aushängeschildern des Tourismus in
Oberösterreich. Das neue Hotel ‚Grand Elisabeth‘ bringt wichtige
Bettenkapazitäten und damit zusätzliche touristische Impulse nicht nur für Bad
Ischl, sondern für die gesamte Region. Umso erfreulicher, dass jetzt die
konkrete Umsetzung dieses Leuchtturmprojektes startet“, stellt Wirtschafts- und
Tourismus-Landesrat Markus Achleitner anlässlich des heutigen Spatenstichs in
Bad Ischl fest. „Investitionen in der Tourismusbranche haben durch ihre engen
Verflechtungen mit der regionalen Wirtschaft eine hohe Multiplikator-Wirkung auf
Arbeitsplätze, Einkommen und Wertschöpfung – sowohl beim Bau selbst als auch
dann im laufenden Betrieb. Dies ist in diesen herausfordernden Zeiten umso
wichtiger“, unterstreicht Landesrat Achleitner die große Bedeutung des
37-Millionen-Euro-Hotelprojektes.

132 Zimmer erweitern ab 2025 touristisches Angebot im Salzkammergut

Das künftige Hotel „Grand Elisabeth“ wird 132 Zimmer und Suiten umfassen. Es
soll Ende Februar 2025 in Betrieb gehen. „Das neue Hotel wird das touristische
Angebot nicht nur in der ‚Kaiserstadt‘ Bad Ischl, sondern darüber hinaus im
gesamten Salzkammergut bereichern. Es soll sowohl klassische Urlauberinnen und
Urlauber ansprechen, als auch neue Angebote für den Kongresstourismus schaffen“,
betont Landesrat Achleitner. „Gerade vom Ganzjahresbetrieb wird die ganze Region
profitieren, beispielsweise sind im Winter auch Shuttles für Skitouristinnen und
Skitouristen nach Gosau und zum Feuerkogel geplant“, hebt Landesrat Achleitner
hervor.

„Wir freuen uns, dass Bad Ischl im Februar 2025 ein zusätzliches, dringend
benötigtes Hotel bekommt.Denn die Nachfrage nach Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten im
gehobenen 4-Sterne-Segment in Bad Ischl ist groß“, betont Mag. Herbert Ackerl
namens der Investoren von der Eigentümer-Gesellschaft Bad Ischl HE GmbH
anlässlich des heutigen Spatenstichs.

„Als Familie Zauner freut uns der Spatenstich dieses so wichtigen Projekts
ungemein: Seit beinahe 30 Jahren sind sich Touristiker und Vertreter der Kommune
einig, dass Bad Ischl dringend weitere Betten benötigt. Nun wird der Grundstein
dafür gelegt. Wir versuchen ein Haus zu schaffen, mit dem wir uns nachhaltig
identifizieren und das ebenso stilvoll geführt werden soll wie wir es in unseren
bestehenden Bad Ischler Betrieben tun“, unterstreichen Philipp und Josef Zauner
von der Konditorei Zauner Bad Ischl, ebenfalls Gesellschafter der
Eigentümer-Gesellschaft Bad Ischl HE GmbH.

Ab September 2023 werden 132 Zimmer des künftigen 4-Sterne-Hotels sowie die
Hotelinfrastruktur errichtet, also Restaurant, Vinothek, Seminarräume,
Wellnessbereich mit Sauna und Hallenbad, Fitnessraum und Tiefgarage. Das als
Kongress- und Touristenhotel konzipierte Hotel wird ganzjährig geöffnet sein und
neben großzügigen Standardzimmern auch gehobene Suiten bieten.

Die Lage des Grand Elisabeth, direkt neben dem Kongress- und Theaterhaus, ist
ideal für Seminare, Kongresse und Veranstaltungen und bietet eine perfekte
Ergänzung zu den bestehenden Räumlichkeiten, in denen Operettenfestspiele,
Musical- und Theaterproduktionen, Ballett und Tanzshows sowie Konzerte
internationaler Stars des Jazz und Pop aufgeführt werden.

Bad Ischl war der Sommersitz des österreichischen Kaisers. Die historische
Kaiservilla prägt natürlich das geschichtliche Bild dieser Stadt. Viele
historische Villen und Gebäude machen Bad Ischl zum Hotspot von Historikern und
Geschichtsliebhabern. Kaiser Franz Josef und Kaiserin Elisabeth (Sisi) haben Bad
Ischl, natürlich auch durch die Sissi-Filme, weltberühmt gemacht. Und der
Kaiserin Sisi, als Namensgeberin des Hotels Grand Elisabeth, verkörpert durch
den Weltstar Romy Schneider, begegnet man auf Schritt und Tritt in dieser
wunderbaren Stadt.

Original-Kutsche aus den Sissi-Filmen

Übrigens wird die Original-Kutsche aus den Sissi-Filmen von Ernst Marischka nach
Fertigstellung des Hotels den Eingangsbereich zieren. Das 120 Jahre alte Gefährt
wurde im Jahr 2020 von der Familie Zauner gemeinsam mit Herbert Ackerl und Josef
Öhlinger ersteigert. Sie wurde restauriert und in den Originalzustand
zurückversetzt. Nach mehr als 400 Arbeitsstunden wird sie nun erstmals am 13.
August als Highlight der Kutschenparade in Bad Ischl der Öffentlichkeit
präsentiert.

On August 1, 1963, Josef Zauner started his apprenticeship as a confectioner at
the former k. u. k. Hofzuckerbäcker Zauner in Bad Ischl laid the foundation for
an unprecedented career. Today, 60 years later, as senior chef, he still greets
the numerous guests in a friendly manner at the Grand Cafe in Pfarrgasse or at
the Zauner Esplanade restaurant on the Traun River.

Master confectioner Josef Zauner has played a major role in shaping the history
of this traditional business, which has been in existence since 1832. With a
great deal of tact, he was able to lead the company carefully into the present.
Thus, “der Zauner” is still considered the epitome of Austrian coffeehouse
culture. In the meantime, he has successfully handed over the management of the
company to his son Philipp and knows that he is in good hands.

Zauner’s professional life was eventful. In 1972, he passed the German and
Austrian master craftsman examinations. His numerous stays abroad earned him the
reputation of an ambassador of Austrian dessert culture, which he underpinned
with numerous gold medals for his gourmet delights at international
competitions. In Japan, the master confectioner from Bad Ischl has been a
welcome guest professor at the confectionery school for decades. As a television
chef and pastry chef, he delighted audiences on ORF and Bayrischer Rundfunk.
Zauner was chairman of the Bad Ischl Tourism Association from 1998 to 2003. In
2021 he received the Golden Badge of Honor of the Province of Upper Austria, and
a year earlier the lifetime achievement award from the gourmet magazine
Falstaff. The Zaunerstollen, of which 170,000 pieces leave the impressive
showcase in Pfarrgasse every year and which finds delighted buyers worldwide, is
even immortalized on an Austrian stamp.

Passing on his extensive knowledge of confectionery has always been a matter
close to Josef Zauner’s heart. Under him, about 150 apprentices were trained –
150 young people who, by completing their apprenticeship in the house of the
world-famous confectioner, obtained a highly qualified professional education,
often paving the way for an international career.

The Ischl showcase company is not running out of projects. With the recently
completed employee residence (formerly Hotel “Stadt Salzburg) with 28
accommodations, the company invested in the future and presents itself as an
attractive employer. Currently, the bakery is being generously remodeled to
better handle the increasing demand from the online store and as investor of the
Grand Elisabeth hotel project behind the Kongress und TheaterHaus, the economic
development of Bad Ischl is being further advanced.

Josef Zauner was now presented with the silver business medal of the WKOÖ by the
vice president of the WKOÖ, Leo Jindrak, at a ceremony at the Auszeit-Alm in Bad
Ischl on account of his services. “This is a high distinction of the WKO, which
so far only very few entrepreneurial personalities in the district have
received”, Jindrak was pleased with his professional colleague.

Zauner would also like to make a contribution to the 2024 Capital of Culture.
Thus, he is chairman of a cooperation that will revive and celebrate the
cultural heritage of confectionery in the Salzkammergut. The epicenter can be
found in Ischl’s Pfarrgasse.

Am 1. August 1963 legte Josef Zauner mit dem Beginn der Konditorlehre beim ehem.
k. u. k. Hoflieferanten und Hofzuckerbäcker Zauner in Bad Ischl den Grundstein
für eine beispiellose Karriere. Heute, 60 Jahre später, begrüßt er als
Senior-Chef noch immer freundlich die zahlreichen Gäste im Grand Cafe in der
Pfarrgasse oder im Restaurant Zauner Esplanade an der Traun.

Konditormeister Josef Zauner hat die Firmengeschichte dieses
Traditionsbetriebes, der seit 1832 besteht, maßgeblich geprägt. Mit viel
Fingerspitzengefühl verstand er es, das Unternehmen behutsam in die Gegenwart zu
führen. So gilt „der Zauner“ auch heute noch als Inbegriff der österreichischen
Kaffeehauskultur. Mittlerweile hat er die Geschäftsleitung erfolgreich an seinen
Sohn Philipp übergeben und weiß ihn in guten Händen.

Zauners Berufsleben war bewegt. Im Jahr 1972 legte er die deutsche und die
österreichische Meisterprüfung ab. Seine zahlreichen Auslandsaufenthalte
brachten ihm den Ruf eines Botschafters der österreichischen Süßspeisenkultur,
den er mit zahlreichen Goldmedaillen für seine Gourmetfreuden bei
internationalen Wettbewerben untermauerte. In Japan ist der Konditormeister aus
Bad Ischl seit Jahrzehnten gern gesehener Gastprofessor an der
Konditorenfachschule. Als Fernsehkoch bzw. -konditor begeisterte er im ORF und
im Bayrischen Rundfunk die Zuseherschaft. Dem Tourismusverband Bad Ischl stand
Zauner von 1998 bis 2003 als Obmann vor. 2021 erhielt er das Goldene
Ehrenzeichen des Landes OÖ, ein Jahr zuvor die Lebenswerk-Auszeichnung vom
Gourmetmagazin Falstaff. Den Zaunerstollen, von dem jährlich 170.000 Stück die
beeindruckende Vitrine in der Pfarrgasse verlassen und der weltweit entzückte
Abnehmer findet, gibt es sogar auf einer österreichischen Briefmarke verewigt.

Sein umfangreiches Wissen rund um die Zuckerbäckerei weiterzugeben, war für
Josef Zauner stets eine Herzensangelegenheit. Unter ihm wurden an die 150
Lehrlinge ausgebildet – 150 junge Menschen, die durch ihren Lehrabschluss im
Hause der weltberühmten Konditorei eine hochqualifizierte Berufsausbildung
erlangten und denen damit oftmals der Weg für eine internationale Karriere
geebnet wurde.

Die Projekte gehen dem Ischler Vorzeigebetrieb nicht aus. Mit der kürzlich
fertiggestellten Mitarbeiter-Residenz (ehem. Hotel „Stadt Salzburg) mit 28
Unterkünften investierte man in die Zukunft und präsentiert sich als attraktiver
Arbeitgeber. Zurzeit wird die Backstube großzügig umgebaut, um die steigende
Nachfrage aus dem Onlineshop besser bewältigen zu können und als Investor des
Hotelprojektes Grand Elisabeth hinter dem Kongress und TheaterHaus wird die
wirtschaftliche Entwicklung Bad Ischls weiter vorangetrieben.

Josef Zauner erhielt nun bei einer Feier auf der Auszeit-Alm in Bad Ischl
aufgrund seiner Verdienste vom Vizepräsidenten der WKOÖ, Leo Jindrak, die
Wirtschaftsmedaille der WKOÖ in Silber überreicht. „Es ist dies eine hohe
Auszeichnung der WKO, die bisher nur ganz wenige Unternehmerpersönlichkeiten im
Bezirk erhalten haben“, freute sich Jindrak mit seinem Berufskollegen.

Auch für die Kulturhauptstadt 2024 möchte Zauner einen Beitrag leisten. So ist
er Vorsitzender einer Kooperation, die das Kulturerbe der Zuckerbäckerei im
Salzkammergut auf- und hochleben lassen wird. Das Epizentrum ist in der Ischler
Pfarrgasse zu finden.

WKOÖ, welche sein jahrzehntelanges Engagement, sei es in der Region oder im

The former k.u.k. Hoflieferant invests in the expansion of the production area
(bakery) as well as the storage capacity, modernizes the departments of
packaging, mailing, administration and creates more spacious employee areas.

Mail order and online store as drivers

In recent years, the demand in the online store has increased rapidly. “The
strong increase in demand in the online store segment is mainly due to the fact
that we launched our online store back in 1995. This laid the foundation for
this important and sustainable building block of our company at an early stage,”
says Josef Zauner.
“Today, we strive to make our assortment in the online store as extensive and
varied as we do in our well-known cake buffet. Our constantly changing offer for
Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day, etc. enjoys great popularity and our
extremely fast processing of orders distinguishes us. In this way, we are
responding to this trend of today and yet remain true to our line as a
down-to-earth craft business,” Philipp Zauner.
Sales in the mail-order segment have shown a consistently positive development
in recent years; in order to be able to continue to meet this trend, Zauner is
now creating additional, modern production, storage, administration and
packaging areas on an area of around 1,500 square meters.
In order to be able to offer more comfort to the steadily growing workforce, the
recreation and changing areas are being enlarged and redesigned.

New jobs in the center of Bad Ischl

“In the short term, we expect the creation of 5 – 10 new jobs, which will be
created immediately in the center of Bad Ischl after project completion. It
would be much easier to implement this project on a greenfield site, but we have
strictly decided against this, because our parent company and the town of Bad
Ischl are very close to our hearts: We are thus pursuing a sustainable strategy
of further developing our company in the heart of the town and steadily creating
new jobs here,” Philipp Zauner.

The staff of the former Hofzuckerbäckers will increase accordingly to over 160
employees*.

Running operations as a challenge

The implementation of the construction project takes place in the “heart” of the
operation at times of the summer peak season. The best possible handling of
ongoing business is becoming a challenge. “Over the past decades, we have been
able to gain a lot of experience in the course of rebuilds during ongoing
operations. I am therefore optimistic that we will also be able to implement
this project smoothly and without any loss in the quality of our products,”
Josef Zauner.

The new areas are scheduled to be commissioned in November 2023.

Der ehem. k.u.k. Hoflieferant investiert in die Erweiterung der
Produktionsfläche (Backstube) sowie der Lagerkapazität, modernisiert die
Abteilungen Verpackung, Postversand, Verwaltung und schafft großzügigere
Mitarbeiterbereiche.

Postversand und Onlineshop als Triebfedern

In den vergangenen Jahren hat die Nachfrage im Onlineshop rapide zugenommen.
„Die stark steigende Nachfrage im Segment Onlineshop ist v.a. der Tatsache
geschuldet, dass wir bereits im Jahre 1995 unseren Onlineshop ins Leben gerufen
haben. Dadurch wurde bereits früh der Grundstein für diesen wichtigen und
nachhaltigen Baustein unseres Unternehmens gelegt“, Josef Zauner.
„Heute sind wir darum bemüht unser Sortiment auch im Onlineshop ähnlich
umfang- und abwechslungsreich zu gestalten, wie wir es in unserem allseits
bekannten Kuchenbuffet tun. Unser laufend wechselndes Angebot zu Weihnachten,
Ostern, Valentinstag, etc. erfreut sich größter Beliebtheit und unsere überaus
schnelle Abwicklung von Bestellungen zeichnet uns aus. Wir reagieren dadurch auf
diesen Trend der heutigen Zeit und bleiben dennoch unserer Linie als
bodenständiger Handwerksbetrieb treu“, Philipp Zauner.
Der Absatz im Versand-Segment hat sich in den letzten Jahren konstant positiv
entwickelt; um dieser Tendenz auch weiterhin gerecht werden zu können, schafft
Zauner nun auf einer Fläche von etwa 1.500 Quadratmetern zusätzliche, moderne
Produktions-, Lager-, Verwaltungs- und Verpackungsbereiche.
Um auch der stetig wachsenden Belegschaft mehr Komfort bieten zu können, werden
die Aufenthalts- und Umkleidebereiche vergrößert und neu gestaltet.

Neue Arbeitsplätze im Zentrum von Bad Ischl

„Kurzfristig rechnen wir mit der Schaffung von 5 – 10 neuen Arbeitsplätzen,
welche nach Projektabschluss umgehend im Zentrum von Bad Ischl geschaffen
werden. Deutlich leichter wäre eine Umsetzung dieses Projekts auf der grünen
Wiese, wogegen wir uns jedoch strikt entschieden haben, denn uns liegen unser
Stammhaus und die Stadt Bad Ischl sehr am Herzen: So verfolgen wir nachhaltig
die Strategie unser Unternehmen im Herzen der Stadt weiterzuentwickeln und hier
stetig neue Arbeitsplätze zu schaffen“, Philipp Zauner

Die Belegschaft des ehem. Hofzuckerbäckers wird sich dementsprechend auf über
160 Mitarbeiter*innen vergrößern.

Laufender Betrieb als Herausforderung

Die Umsetzung des Bauvorhabens erfolgt im „Herzstück“ des Betriebs zu Zeiten
der sommerlichen Hochsaison. Die bestmögliche Abwicklung des laufenden
Geschäfts entwickelt sich zur Herausforderung. „Wir konnten in den vergangenen
Jahrzehnten viel Erfahrung im Zuge von Umbaumaßnahmen bei laufendem Betrieb
sammeln. Deshalb bin ich optimistisch gestimmt, auch dieses Projekt reibungslos
und ohne Qualitätsverlust unserer Produkte umsetzen zu können“, Josef Zauner.

Die Inbetriebnahme der neuen Bereiche ist für November 2023 geplant.

Probably the largest sweet Christmas bazaar in the country has been enchanting
young and old at the headquarters of the k.u.k. Hofzuckerbäckerei Zauner for 40
years now. Over 70 varieties of gingerbread, cookies and confectionery are
included in the selection in the run-up to Christmas. In November 2022, the
Christmas bazaar was now set up for the 40th time without interruption.

What began in 1982 as an impromptu presentation of Christmas Bakery and
Gingerbread started because there was no more room in the showcase at the time,
quickly developed into a unique experience in the run-up to Christmas: from the
beginning of November, the front area of the venerable flagship store in
Pfarrgasse will be devoted entirely to Christmas baking. Through elaborately
produced showpieces, the confectioners of the Hofzuckerbäckerei demonstrate
their creativity every year, while the attention to detail can be seen in the
lovingly handmade and packaged baked goods.

“The presentation of our products has always been a matter close to our hearts,
because if the highest quality raw materials are produced in unmistakable
handwork, then this sweet specialty also deserves high-quality packaging.
Especially for the Christmas season, we therefore think of new sophisticated
packaging uniques every year“, Susanne Zauner, who is responsible for the
decoration, packaging and presentation of Zauner products.

“I am extremely proud of our wide selection of Christmas baked goods that we
conjure up in the late fall of each year. This selection is certainly unique in
our industry. It gives me particular pleasure to see the many beaming faces in
the café when our bazaar is set up – it creates an incomparable atmosphere that

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, the coffee blend created especially for the Lehár
Festival Bad Ischl was presented by the performers of the 2022 season at
Konditorei Zauner!

Indentant Thomas Enzinger, Brigitte Stumpner and Philipp Zauner were
particularly pleased that the long cooperation of the traditional Ischl
companies now gets a culinary face in the form of the festival coffee!

“Intendant Thomas Enzinger asked us to create something very special for this
year’s festival. Of course, we were happy to comply with his suggestion: We
teamed up with our coffee partner Nussbaumer from Gmunden and created an
exclusive coffee roast for the 2022 festival. Because own festival wines,
-pralines or -chocolates already exist in abundance, an own festival coffee
exists however only in Bad Ischl”, Philipp Zauner (managing director Konditorei
Zauner).
The beans are roasted in the heart of the Salzkammergut region, and the green
coffee for this special blend comes largely from the best growing areas of the
Central and South American highlands.

“In order to be able to guarantee direct trade, I am in personal exchange with
our coffee farmers, some of whom I have already been able to visit in their
growing regions. In this way, we constantly strive to ensure transparent supply
chains,” Marlene Drack, Austria’s youngest coffee roaster and junior manager of
the Nussbaumer roasting plant.

The Nussbaumer family business, now in its fourth generation, stands for
tradition and honest craftsmanship. Using a gentle drum roasting process, the
beans are roasted in Gmunden on Lake Traunsee.
