TICKET NEWS 2024 Olympics Underway in Paris July 25, 2024 The world’s biggest sporting event is here: the Olympics. The 2024 Games begin this week in Paris and are already set to make history in their first few days; it’s the first time the Opening Ceremony is not in a stadium. Athletes will make their first official appearance on boats that float down the Seine River, with spectators cheering them on from the sides and bridges along the path. It’s also the first Olympics that will allow full capacity since the start of the pandemic. While the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics isn’t until 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday, soccer, rugby, handball and archery will all begin competing as early as Wednesday. LeBron James and Coco Gauff have been selected by their teammates as the Team USA flagbearers for the ceremony. NBC will be the home for Olympics coverage in the U.S. after reportedly paying $7.65 billion to renew its broadcast deal through 2032. Viewers can tune in to games across NBC channels including E!, Golf Channel, CNBC and USA Network. NBC’s streaming service Peacock will stream every Olympic event this year – the first Summer Games to feature this and offers a multiview option with up to four broadcasts. Dan Lovinger, president of Olympic and Paralympic sales at NBCUniversal, said in April that revenue for Paris already surpassed any other Olympics. The Olympic Games will run until August 11, with the Closing Ceremony at 3 p.m. ET at Stade de France. Upcoming Olympics In the next decade, the U.S. will host two Olympic Games. Los Angeles will host the next Summer Olympic Games in 2028, and it was also announced this week that Salt Lake City, Utah has been selected to host the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. Read More WNBA Prepares for All-Star Weekend July 19, 2024 The growth of women’s sports continues to make itself known. The 2024 WNBA All-Star game on Saturday at Footprint Center in Phoenix is officially sold out, according to the league. Fans can still get tickets on secondary ticketing websites at an average ticket price of $254 as of Friday morning, according to TFL. The interest in women’s basketball is undoubtedly getting bigger, and some of that is from a few of the league’s rookies this year. Caitlin Clark, who set a record in the NCAA last year for most career points by a man or woman, and Angel Reese, who led LSU to an NCAA championship in her junior season, were selected for the game in their first years. This week, Clark set another record with 19 assists in a game, the most in a single WNBA game. Aside from the Indiana Fever’s Aliyah Boston, all other players in the game have been in the league for at least four years. Players are selected by a combination of votes from fans, players and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Clark, Reese and Boston will play on Team WNBA against the USA Women’s National Team. Similar to 2021, the All-Star game changed this year from Team East vs. Team West as Team USA prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics beginning later this month, where Team USA will compete for its eighth consecutive gold medal. Due to the Olympics, the All-Star break will also be extended this year. Footprint Center will host a few other events Friday night. The Starry WNBA 3-point Contest and Kia WNBA Skills Challenge will be aired at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. As of Friday morning, the average ticket price stood at $110. WNBA Live, the league’s fan festival, will also be open at the Phoenix Convention Center from July 19-20. Fans can tune into the WNBA All-Star game at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC. On Wednesday, Colombia won its match against Uruguay to meet Argentina in the championship game, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 14 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Meanwhile, Uruguay will compete for third place against Canada at the same time the day before at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. In its 108-year history, it’s just the second time the tournament is being held outside of South America. Following Uruguay’s loss on Wednesday, the team’s players were involved in fights in the stands with Colombia fans. Uruguay’s José María Giménez reportedly said Colombian fans were aggressive toward Uruguay family members, including some with young children, and they needed to step in. However, it doesn’t seem that the actions on Wednesday will affect Uruguay’s upcoming game. “CONMEBOL strongly condemns any act of violence that affects football,” South America’s soccer governing body said in a statement. “Our work is based on the conviction that soccer connects and unites us through its positive values… We invite everyone in the remaining days to pour all their passion into cheering on their national teams and having an unforgettable party.” According to ticket prices, it’s no surprise that the final is in more demand than the semifinal games. The average ticket price (ATP) to the semifinals was $418, while the ATP for the final is already $1,498. Fans can see the third-place game for just a fraction of the price at $209, on average. Both teams in the final have a lot on the line. Lionel Messi and his Argentina team will look to defend their title and set the record for the most titles – they’re currently tied with Uruguay at 15. Colombia will look to win its second ever\ championship after entering the tournament with a 22-game win streak. The post Copa América Final Tickets Highly Sought After appeared first on TFL. Read More Demand is High for Sports in First Half of 2024 July 5, 2024 The first half of 2024 has ended, meaning several major sporting events have already occurred this year. Looking at the last six months, one thing’s clear: live events are in demand. The year started out strong with Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. The Chiefs secured their second consecutive Super Bowl win. . Nine days out from kickoff, the get-in price was $7,900 – more expensive than the average ticket price at the same time last year. Not long after the Super Bowl was the Daytona 500, which ended with an average ticket price of $205 – pocket change compared to the Super Bowl. The next month was March Madness; it confirmed the brightening spotlight on women’s sports. Without yet knowing who was in the championship game, the women’s championship get-in price was $380, and the men’s was only $195. Once the Final Four was decided, the women’s championship still had a higher average ticket price than the men’s. March also featured Opening Day for MLB. The defending World Series champions, the Texas Rangers, hosted the Chicago Cubs and had the highest average sold price in the league at $350. Possibly the only other major sporting event that can compare to the Super Bowl in terms of ticket prices was the Masters. In the days leading up to the April tournament, the practice round had a higher average ticket price than the final few days, likely due to the guarantee of seeing Tiger Woods. As of the Monday before, Wednesday’s practice round had an average ticket price of $2,500, while the final Sunday’s was $2,100. The last weekend of April had two major events: the Kentucky Derby and Miami Grand Prix. The former had two-day general admission tickets for the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks for $206 on secondary market TFL. The Miami Grand Prix had three-day campus passes starting at $450. May saw the start of the WNBA’s 2024 regular season – the first for NCAA all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark. Clark has brought increased attendance to the league; ahead of the league’s first game, tickets sold were 1.9x higher when Clark and the Indiana Fever were included in the matchup, accounting for 65% of all ticket sales. June’s big event was the NBA Finals. The Boston Celtics won the best-of-seven series in five games. The series had an average ticket price of $1,660 across the five games, with prices increasing as the series went along. Read More TFL Attends SHRM24 in Chicago July 1, 2024 Winning Inside to Win Outside TFL recently attended the SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) conference in Chicago, an event dedicated to empowering people and workplaces to advance HR practices and maximize human potential. One standout moment was the keynote session delivered by TFL advisor Jeff Fromm, which underscored a pivotal concept: Winning Inside to Win Outside. Jeff’s session focused on the relationship between employee and consumer loyalty. The message was clear: employers must prioritize their employees’ needs and satisfaction to achieve success in the marketplace. Creating “brand love” starts in an organization, and when employees feel valued and empowered, they become passionate ambassadors for the brand. Organizations see a positive effect on employee enthusiasm and commitment to the customer experience, and, in turn, customers feel more satisfied, too. One topic covered during the session was the increasing power employees have in today’s digital age. With access to a variety of platforms and tools, employees can influence company culture before and after joining a company. Jeff highlighted that the shift means organizations must adopt a YOLO (You Only Live Once) mindset, daring to implement new and innovative strategies to engage and retain talent. As employees’ needs shift, companies need to evolve with them. By dedicating time, resources and innovative strategies to employee well-being and satisfaction, companies can foster a thriving workforce that drives consumer loyalty and success. Main Themes of SHRM24 In addition to Jeff’s session, the conference had many other key HR insights including topics on employee well-being, meaningful work and more. One of the recurring themes throughout the week was the importance of aligning business and people strategies with core values. Some sessions highlighted that building core values from the ground up with active employee involvement will ensure that a company’s core values are genuinely embraced and followed. Many companies seem to miss the mark on this. A recent study from Gallup suggests that 23% of U.S. employees strongly agree that they can apply their organization’s values to their work every day, and only 27% strongly agree that they “believe in” their organization’s values. Values aren’t the only way to heighten employee engagement, though. The well-being of employees and the importance of meaningful work was another focus throughout the conference. Caring for employees’ mental, physical and emotional health should be top of mind for employers. Practical strategies such as respecting employees’ time off, avoiding unnecessary communication during weekends and training managers to support their teams effectively are all imperative. By prioritizing well-being, employers can build toward a more resilient and motivated workforce. Employees are increasingly seeking roles that offer more than just a paycheck – they want to feel that their work has a purpose. Providing meaningful work experiences puts companies in better positions to attract and retain top talent. Incentives and nontraditional rewards like discounts on live events or free gym classes is another way to meet employees’ wishes, reinforcing desired behaviors to create a strong company culture. A Shifting Landscape All sessions at SHRM24, including Jeff’s keynote, were a reminder that to win in the marketplace of any industry, companies must first win the loyalty and dedication of their employees. There are a variety of avenues where this can be done, however mixing several strategies is the perfect way to increase satisfaction. Satisfied employees turn into engaged employees who drive business success. The post TFL Attends SHRM24 in Chicago appeared first on TFL. Read More TFL Serves as Title Sponsor of NAATSO for Second Year June 28, 2024 TFL was the title sponsor of NACDA’s NAATSO conference in Las Vegas earlier this month, which offered a space for Team TFL to network with, and learn from, other leaders in the industry. Throughout the conference, there was a topic that was consistently at the forefront: data. With mentions of the topic at several different sessions, it became clear that data is being used in a variety of ways. Clay Discher, chief revenue officer at TFL, moderated a panel called “Insights to Action: Making Use of Data,” focusing on ways schools use data to help reach fans. Panelists included Matt Carabajal, the senior director of ticket operations at the Washington Commanders, Patrick Crowley, assistant athletic director at Tennessee, and Justin Morgan, assistant vice president of ticket sales and development at Texas A&M’s 12th Man Foundation. One of the questions Clay asked the panelists was what valuable data reports they’ve created. A report that Crowley highlighted was on gate entrances. His team felt that certain gate entrances were too busy, so they wanted to find a way that their fans could still have a good experience even if gates were busy. During home games, Crowley’s team ran a report to see where the most ticket scans were. They used information to then distribute workers accordingly to have more scanners at the busier gates. Clay also asked the group what type of data they find to be most actionable and how they’re using that data to drive successful outcomes. “We’re constantly running paid social ads and email marketing campaigns to find those hand raisers and making sure we’re reaching out to them as quickly as we can,” said Carabajal. “On the back end, I also think from an actional data standpoint, when we look at pricing and decisions that go into that, a lot of secondary market data is what I would rely on in addition to the insights that your partner – a group like a TFL – can provide you for making those decisions.” If it wasn’t already obvious that data was emphasized at NACDA, NCAA president Charlie Baker even highlighted the NCAA’s new fan database in the conference’s featured session. “We grew year-over-year ticket revenues at one program in the spring… by 30%,” he said to the schools in attendance. “We can do reciprocal work with you all to enhance many of your most interesting rivalry games and your own tournaments, but it can definitely give us the ability to connect fans with the schools and sports they love in person.” “And it’s also going to dramatically improve how we reach millions of fans through a variety of social media and traditional media and streaming channels so that we can drive additional exposure, and yes, additional revenue to college sports.” Data isn’t going anywhere. Especially as technology continues to advance, it’ll be increasingly more important for schools to dive deeper in their numbers and statistics to streamline their processes and understand their fan base.
