The seniors are featured in a three-part series on how sea levels and our future may be impacted by climate change and Thwaites “Doomsday” Glacier in Antarctica. The glacier is closely monitored for its potential to elevate sea levels. The students assisted in scientific investigations alongside renowned climate scientists, including a Nobel Prize winner. Some of the filming took place at Grant. The U.S. Ice Drilling Program and the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) will host the premiere of the series at 6 o'clock tonight (May 28), at the MOSAC Multiverse Dome Theater, 400 Jibboom St., Sacramento. Tickets: $5; there's also a charge for parking. This opportunity was made possible by their teacher, Dr. Marc Vankeuren (2024-2025 District Teacher of the Year, Secondary), through connections with the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Ice Drilling Program. "At the start, I don't think they (students) really understood the scope of what they were doing; what it really meant to partner with climate scientists," says Dr. Vankeuren. "As filming went along ... the pieces started coming together." The educational videos help bridge the gap between academic research and public understanding of climate data. Crafted to resonate with both high school and college-level audiences, the scripts aim to be engaging and accessible. Evelina Cheng describes the experience of working on the project as "impactful." "Impactful for us and the students who will be viewing the videos, providing insights into how climate change can impact our planet,” she explains. Dr. Vankeuren says being a part of the project was a great opportunity for his students and he will seek more like it. “It’s great exposure for our students and allows them to meet people outside of our community, build connections outside of the community, gives them purpose and to see how change is made, small steps at a time.” Like Like (1)Share Share CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TR RETIREES 05/14/2024 11:43 AM After years of dedication and inspiration, we're bidding farewell to some of our cherished TR staff members as they embark on their well-deserved retirement journey. This huge honor shines a spotlight on the superintendent’s inspiring leadership which has turned Twin Rivers into a shining example of progress and growth over the past decade. Nurturing the potential of every student is a collective effort. “Dr. Martinez has made Twin Rivers a district where people can identify progress,” said Derrell Roberts, CEO of the Roberts Family Development Center. “New construction, planned upgrades, a significant increase in high school graduation rates, outward student successes in and out of class, and some of the highest teacher salaries in our region. We are looking forward to working with him on ways to involve our broader community in making sure that this progress continues.” From infrastructure enhancements to academic achievements, Twin Rivers Unified has experienced remarkable growth under Dr. Martinez’s guidance. School safety is our highest priority, and recent local and national incidents/events highlight how critical it is for all of us to work together to ensure a safe environment for our children to learn, grow and thrive in our classrooms and in the community. We recognize that it’s hard not to worry and feel vulnerable with each report of a violent crime in the area. There are likely concerns about campus safety, and we want to take this opportunity to highlight our safety and security measures. It’s important for you to know that there are many efforts taking place throughout the district to keep our students and staff safe.
