Low-emission zone in Ghent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOW-EMISSION ZONE IN GHENT * * Nederlands | Français | Deutsch LOW EMISSION ZONE GHENT Check immediatelly whether your vehicle is allowed to enter the low emission zone. Not allowed? Answer all the online questions and request the appropriate access for your vehicle right away. * Check your vehicle * Register your foreign vehicle As communicated before, the access requirements for the low emission zone in the city centre of Ghent will become stricter on January 1, 2025. The Flemish government has the intention to postpone this effective date by 1 year to January 1, 2026. The City of Ghent will only communicate after the Flemish government’s definitive decision, which will be taken by autumn 2023. We will inform you of the decision and any further communication via the web pages of the Ghent LEZ. * To improve air quality, Ghent’s inner city (the area within the ring road) is a low emission zone. Only vehicles that meet entry requirements will be allowed into this zone. Check your vehicle before coming to Ghent. Do you have a question? Take a look at the frequently asked questions or contact us. * * REGISTRATION OBLIGATION FOR FOREIGN NUMBER PLATES Permitted vehicles with a foreign number plate must be registered. You can register your vehicle with the online tool. Always check your vehicle in advance to avoid a fine! ATTENTION: Beware of certain commercial companies that offer you a service/sticker against payment. The City of Ghent is not in any way involved. * YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY ALLOWED. HOW CAN YOU TEMPORARILY ENTER THE ZONE? * REGISTER YOUR VEHICLE Some vehicles can be registered free of charge. Afterwards, you can enter all low emission zones in Flanders. Registration is obligatory for foreign vehicles that meet the access requirements (except Dutch numperplates). Do this no later than 1 day after entering the LEZ. Already received a fine? Some vehicules qualify for a late registration. See which vehicles need to be registered * BUY A PERMIT It is possible to buy a permit for diesel-powered vehicles that meet the Euro 4 standard or for specific vehicles. You can temporarily enter the LEZ in Ghent with such a permit. Ask for your permit no later than 1 day after entering the LEZ. For these vehicles you can buy a permit * BUY A LEZ DAY PASS If you buy a LEZ day pass, you can enter the LEZ in Ghent with any type of vehicle. A day pass costs € 35 and you can only buy up to eight day passes a year. Ask for a LEZ day pass no later than 1 day after entering the LEZ. Buy your LEZ day pass WHERE IS THE LOW EMISSION ZONE? The low emission zone in Ghent is marked in pink on the map below. Enter your destination address in the search bar and check whether this address (or the road leading to it) is located in the LEZ.
