According to a social media post from Johns, he “got lost while driving” and was in an accident. Mr Johns was assessed at the scene by paramedics before police conducted a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result. “He was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace police station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.157,” NSW Police said in a statement. Following the accident, Mr Johns took to social media to address the crash and announce he was self-admitting to a rehabilitation centre following a battle with PTSD, anxiety and depression. “Over the last week, I began to experience panic attacks,” wrote Mr Johns in a post on Instagram on Thursday. “Last night I got lost while driving, and I was in an accident, I am OK, everyone is OK.” The 42-year-old also admitted in his post that he has been “self-medicating with alcohol” to deal with his mental health. Advertisement Mr Johns shot to fame as the frontman of Silverchair, whose first album Frogstomp was released in 1995 when the band members were just 15. Silverchair went on to become one of Australia’s most successful music exports, selling more than 10 million albums worldwide before taking an indefinite hiatus in 2011. Most recently he has been both the host and subject of the hit Spotify podcast Who is Daniel Johns? Released last year, the podcast offered insight into the extent of Mr Johns’ battles with anxiety disorders, depression and anorexia. “I used to wait until everyone went to bed and then I would take [my dog] for walks at 2am for like, three hours because I was anorexic, so I was trying to lose weight,” Johns told interviewer Kaitlyn Sawrey. Mr Johns has been busy preparing to release his second solo album, FutureNever. News of his admission to rehab came just weeks after it was confirmed the album would be delayed until April 22. According to NSW Police, he has been issued with a field court attendance notice and is due to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on April 11. The two occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash – a 51-year-old male driver and a 55-year-old female passenger – were treated at the scene, NSW Police said. The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment and has since been released. Following Mr Johns’ statement on social media, industry friends were quick to wish the musician a speedy recovery. “Love you so much. You’ve got this,” wrote ex-wife Natalie Imbruglia. Mr Johns’ management was approached for comment. Support is available from Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636. Save Log in, register or subscribe to save articles for later.
