ROCK CLIMBING CAMPOUT, MAY 12-14, 2023

Posted on April 23, 2023 by Jeremy Menner

Troop 850 will be camping at Camp McKee May 12-14 and rock climbing with the
Southeast Mountain Guides in Red River Gorge on Saturday, May 13th. The trip is
appropriate for beginner climbers.

The cost of the trip is $80 if you plan to climb ($52 of that goes straight to
the climbing company), any adults attending but not climbing the cost is $30.
Attached is the waiver and permission slip which are due by the 4/25 meeting. We
are asking for commitments earlier than normal since we know this is a popular
campout and we currently have a reservation for 20.  There is a good chance we
will go over that number so we want to be able to call the company and see if we
can update / confirm that reservation as early as possible (currently they show
sold out).  We will need a few adults that are willing to climb as this is
required for any scout under 15 years old.

Hello. This is Landon Ogilvie; I am currently working on my Eagle project. I am
working with New London Hills in Hamilton, Ohio on building a Gaga Pit. The Gaga
Pit will give patrons, youth in the neighborhood and guests another form of
activity and exercise. Gaga is a popular active game for youth.

The fundraising goal for my project is around $1,000 which will cover the cost
of materials for completion. Any extra funds will be donated to New London Hills
for future projects and maintenance.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.

ANNUAL DUTCH OVEN CAMPOUT, CAMP BIRCH

Posted on January 27, 2023 by Daniel Ogilvie

Troop 850’s annual Dutch Oven Campout is scheduled for the weekend of February
10-12th at Camp Birch, Yellow Springs, OH (around the corner from John Bryan
park where we do the Bushwhack hike). This campout is consistently a favorite of
the Scouts, and adult leaders who attend are consistently impressed with the
boy’s culinary acumen. This year we will be staying in the Adam’s building at
Birch which is heated.

Scouts will spend Saturday creating a 3 course culinary masterpiece; each patrol
will make a main dish, a bread, and a dessert from scratch to share with the
judges and the rest of the campers. Parents are welcome to come out and sample
the dishes on Saturday or to help create their own Dutch Oven feast. After
sampling all of the gourmet cuisine, the judges will have the unenviable task of
designating which patrol is the best of the best, while all other participants
feast on the Dutch Oven fair.

In addition to meal planning and cooking, time will be set aside to allow for
Scouts to pursue advancement requirements, to play cards, and for other group
activities which are being planned. So wash your serving spoon, polish your
dutch oven, and start your menu planning–Dutch Oven Campout time is here!

Parents who plan to attend the meal on Saturday evening please RSPV by the
February 7th meeting so we can plan accordingly.

The trip cost is $40/person.  All Boys Scouts must attend the entire weekend per
Troop policy. Please return the permission slip and payment by the February 7th
meeting.

MOSAIC CLIMBING AND BOULDERING

Posted on January 22, 2023 by Daniel Ogilvie

Troop 850 is planning a morning of indoor rock climbing and bouldering at Mosaic
in Loveland on Saturday, January 28th. At Mosaic, they have a variety of

need enough adults to belay, typically one per 4 or so Scouts. The boys will be
able to work on climbing merit badge while there if they choose to do so. Any
boy 14 and over will have the option of belaying also. We will meet Saturday,
January 28th, at St. Ignatius and leave by 9:00 am. We will climb from
10:00-12:00pm and return thereafter or you can meet us there. Cost per climber
will be $20, which should be turned in at the Troop meeting on January 24th
