IMPORTANCE OF TAKING BATH AT END OF HINDU RELIGIOUS FUNCTION

By Abhilash Rajendran Tuesday, December 07, 2021
The act of taking bath at the end of a sacrifice or yagna or religious function
is Hindu religion is known as Avabhrithasnana. The bath is generally taken in a
river, holy tank or sea and is of great importance after certain rituals. It is
considered highly meritorious to take this ceremonial bath. The word avabhritha
denotes the concluding rite of a principal religious rite as well as the
supplementary sacrifice done for the removal of defects in the performance of
the principal rite. The remnants of the materials used in the rite are thrown
into the river. Matsya Purana (23.23) refers to the Avabhrithasnana taken by
Soma at the conclusion of the Rajasuya sacrifice performed by him for the
conquest of Indra’s kingdom and to gain immense power. Vayu Purana (104, 40-42)
describes the gain of heaven and other merits by the sages of the Naimisha
forest after the avabhritha bathing taken by them at the conclusion of a
sacrifice. Srimad Bhagavata Purana (X.75.8-20) describes graphical

INWARD GAZE ALONE CAN PROTECT US FROM SUFFERING AND TROUBLE

By Abhilash Rajendran Tuesday, December 07, 2021
At the individual level, the problem of the outward gaze keeps us preoccupied
with the problems of others, other beings or things. We are always concerned
with this person or that thing and set out to correct them, all the time unaware
of the manifold problems we are suffering from, both physical and mental. These
are the symptoms of the deeper problem of not understanding our true nature,
which is spiritual. If we desire material or spiritual success, if we desire
peace, we need to turn our gaze inwards. This inward gaze alone can protect us
from suffering and trouble. Just like machines that come with a self-repairing
mechanism, we need to develop a self-analysing and self-correcting mechanism. If
we need peace, we need to take a moment and analyse this life of ours, its pace
and its destination. Where are we headed to? What pace are we travelling in?
Such questions need to be asked constantly and at every moment of our lives. The
inward gaze has to be so penetrating that we

SYMBOLISM IN MEANING OF BHAKTI

By Abhilash Rajendran Monday, December 06, 2021
In Hinduism, Bhakti or devotion is so intense that the devotee surrenders
unconditionally at the lotus feet of Bhagavan. Here is a look at the symbolism
in the meaning of Bhakti. The word Bhakti or Bhagati is constituted of ‘bhag’
meaning may or illusion and ‘iti’ meaning ‘end.’ Thus bhakti is the end of
illusion. It is said that the entire samsara (world) is maya, a construction.
Shiva told Goddess Uma (Parvati) that the whole world is a mere
thought-construct; the truth is only Bhagavan or Supreme Truth. The Bhagavad
Gita says, “anityam sukham lokamimam prapya bhajasva mam" (the world is
transitory and its pleasures are also false and transient, and one should pray
to Bhagavan). When the worldly illusion of maya ends, Bhakti starts.
.......................... Bhakti literally means ‘apportioning’ or ‘sharing.’
It is therefore, in spirit of yagna, which is also paraspara bhavana
(participation, mutual understanding). Bhakti has an additional meaning, ‘to
wait upon,’ ‘to s

Gita Jayanti is observed on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of
moon) of Margashirsha month as per traditional Hindu calendar. Gita Jayanti 2021
date is December 14. It is believed that the Bhagavad Gita was rendered by Lord
Krishna to Arjuna on this day. Gita Jayanti falls on the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi
day of the Margashirsha month (November – December). Importance of Bhagavad Gita
Jayanti The greatest quality of Bhagavad Gita is that it prompts you to think,
it prompts you to take decision, and it prompts you to look at life differently
and refreshingly and all this without surrendering your individuality. Bhagavad
Gita adapts to the present and discusses an issue by rooting itself in the
present. Everyday somewhere in the world a confused Arjuna seeks the advice of
Krishna . Through the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna has been discussing and
debating various problems with individuals and finding solutions for thousand of
years and will continue to do the s

TEACHINGS ON DEATH IN DNYANESHWARI

By Abhilash Rajendran Monday, December 06, 2021
Teachings on death in Dnyaneshwari from chapter 8 He who becomes one with Me
(Bhagavan or God) from outside as well as inside, sheds the layers of the five
principles from his body automatically. He who is not aware of his body even
while living does not feel grief from death. A vessel immersed in water has
water inside as well as outside. Does water break if the vessel breaks?
Similarly even if body gets destroyed, Brahman (God) continues to be everywhere
and therefore how can the intellect which has become one with it get destroyed?
Therefore those who remember me (Bhagavan) at the time of death become one with
me. (8:59-68) The normal rule is that after death a person attains that state
which is in his mind at the time of death. He cannot avoid it. Just as one
dreams of things which are constantly in the mind while awake, whatever one
longs for in life comes to the mind at the time of death and he attains that
state. Therefore make a habit of always remembering Me (God). Conside
