I live in Podunk, Deep South. My kid's a cop. The number of stolen and/or illegal firearms recovered from felons in this town is absurd. Ghost guns are but one of a dozen ways kids and criminals can acquire guns. As you rightly mention, "most will find other ways." And those ways you mention won't preclude unsavory or violently-minded people from acquiring firearms. In fact, there is no way to assure that, "Only responsible, upstanding citizens are allowed to purchase and own firearms." Criminals, by definition, disdain laws. Thus, the only way to curb gun violence (and crime in general) is to prosecute criminal behavior. When the son of the sitting president can get away with falsifying a purchase application for a gun, there's no way anti-gunners can argue for more gun regulation. When criminals are booked, given a court date, and released to commit more crime, there's no way anyone can argue for more gun regulation. Targeting the tool the criminal uses doesn't stop the crime. To effectuate lower crime rates, authorities must target criminal behavior and those who engage in it. Thoughts?
