[FIX] Game won't start cause .net 3.5 required
So i couldn't launch the game cause this was required and this solution worked
for me:

"Go the game’s install folder > create a new text document called “steam_appid”
> open this file in notepad > type “870780”. Save and exit the notepad and then,
launch the game directly from either Control_DX11.exe or Control_DX12.exe. The
game will launch without crashing."

Installation of .NET 3.5 might be tricky in Windows 8 and later, if it had not
been added during OS installation phase. The files in question are not necessary
on the hard drive. And, moreover, if you on Windows 10 and had upgraded to the
later build, you need .NET package for that new build specifically.
So, the best idea, is to install all available .NET runtimes along with Windows
from the very beginnig. And allow those to update along with the OS as well.

If they're part of the requirements for the game, then steam tends to keep them
in the shared repository in your steam folder.

Universal stand-alone installer for .NET 3.5 you are speaking about does not
work for Windows 8 and later. You have to install this runtime via 'Programs and
features->Turn Windows Windows features on or off' as an OS component only.
Actually, it does not work for Vista/Seven as well, but these two DO cache their
own package of an installer to your hard-drive. So, usually, it's just as simple
as switching one check-box on.

The game obviously doesn't need it to run so I thought this might help others.

I'm not going through tons of posts via the search feature. You're more than
capable of doing that yourself.

Holy crap, thank you for this. I thought I was going to have to refund the game,
because I do not want to install .NET 3.5. I don't want the litter on my system
and all the potential issues like I've had with .NET before.

I have .NET 4.8 installed anyway, and .NET is backward compatible. This is why
it works even without installing .NET 3.5. I hate the way they just try forcing
users to install everything to simply things for themselves.

One note, though: The file to create has to have the .txt extension. The
"steam_appid.txt" file to create and add "870780" (without quotes) will
typically be:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Control\steam_appid.txt

I know it says "text file" above, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to
have ".txt" extension.

.NET 4.8 is backward compatible down to 4.0 only. Your assumption is wrong.

Well, God forbid I say something that someone didn't take issue with!

But it wasn't an assumption. I'd read it:

"The .NET Framework 4.5 and later versions are backward-compatible with apps
that were built with earlier versions of the .NET Framework. In other words,
apps and components built with previous versions will work without modification
on the .NET Framework 4.5 and later versions."

Now, in anticipation of the next response, of course backward compatibility is
never perfect.

But ... It works. The game works fine. Obviously I don't need to install .NET
3.5.

Maybe it's not backward compatibility, but rather, pure magic?

Or you actually have .NET 3.5. installed. It's rather easy to check: 'Programs
and features->Turn windows features on or off', and, at least on Windows 10, the
first item in the the list wold be '.NET framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and
3.0)'. While '.NET framework 4' would be the second item. On Windows 7 only .NET
3.5 will appear in the component list.

P. S. Well, game might not require .net 3.5 at all despite the error messages.
You could check your installed .NET CLRs with ASoft's .NET Version Detector:

And it visually represent what .NET's are compatible as well.

I have looked in W10 and doesnt show Framework in installed apps/programs. Only
when i look in windows update>history>other updates> there is an update for
Framework 3.5 and 4.8 installed.
