Imagine suffering a paralyzing back injury, losing the ability to walk and
getting tossed into a cage without ever receiving medical treatment. 

This was the terrifying reality for Mrs. Maisel, a three-year-old Chihuahua who
had already been forced to adapt to her paralysis by developing impressive upper
body strength that allowed her to maintain some sort of mobility, all while
dragging her paralyzed legs across the freezing North Carolina terrain.

By the time she arrived at the local animal shelter, Mrs. Maisel was visibly
distraught; she snapped and growled at shelter staff out of pure terror. As we
are well aware, a paralyzed dog with "aggressive" tendencies does not do well in
a shelter environment. Luckily, we specialize in special needs animals and felt
compelled to give little Mrs. Maisel a second chance at life.

According to our vet, Mrs. Maisel suffered a paralyzing back injury that was
never treated, which means that surgery won't correct the problem and she will
never regain the use of her back legs. She is going to need physical therapy and
acupuncture to help relax the muscles and tendons that have become tight from
lack of use. 

Mrs. Maisel is not in any pain but will need to get fitted for a custom
wheelchair to improve her mobility and allow her to get around without having to
drag her body and legs across the ground. After some love and care, we've
learned that Mrs. Maisel is an absolute sweetheart who loves to cuddle. Her
previously perceived "aggression" was merely a natural reaction to fear and not
a clear indicator of her true personality.

Whether Mrs. Maisel gets adopted into a forever home or spends her life at
Naughty Donkey Farm Sanctuary, we will make sure that this sweet little lady
never has to suffer again.
