FLOATING (JAPE SONG)

"Floating" is a 2004 single by the Irish band Jape, taken from the second studio
album, The Monkeys in the Zoo Have More Fun Than Me and described as "Jape's
trademark song". Co-produced by David Kitt, the single was the first release
from the album and was generally viewed by critics as the standout track on the
album. In 2007, it featured on the EP, Jape is Grape, for which a video was
made. Brendan Benson of The Raconteurs is a known admirer of the song and has
performed a cover version during live shows.

RECEPTION

"Floating" was a popular single on late night alternative music radio shows in
Ireland. The national broadcaster RTÉ described the song as "part drugs story
and part love song" and noted its "quirky instrumentation and Gregorian
chanting". It described the lyrics as having "a definite feel of amateur
philosophy at 5am" but it said that that was "not necessarily a bad thing".

COVER VERSIONS

The song was famously overheard being played in Whelan's in Dublin by the
musician Brendan Benson who immediately requested a copy of the album. A friend
at the venue informed the band of this development following a show at The Bloom
Festival during The Rose of Tralee festival in County Kerry. Benson then praised
Jape in The Guardian (however, the newspaper spelt it "Jabe") and rang the
song's writer to inform him he would be covering "Floating" with his band The
Raconteurs. Benson did not actually receive permission to cover the track
although it has been said that he would have been allowed to had he asked. Jape
witnessed the cover live at the Olympia Theatre and was later to describe it as
"a great moment". "Floating" is also covered by the Belgian bastard pop duo
Soulwax during their DJ sets.

FLOATING (MEGAN ROCHELL SONG)

"Floating" is a song from Megan Rochell's unreleased album You, Me and the
Radio. It peaked at number 55 on Billboard magazine's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs
chart.

This song is sampled from Teena Marie's song "Now That I Have You".

EXPLORATION

Exploration is the act of searching for the purpose of discovery of information
or resources. Exploration occurs in all non-sessile animal species, including
humans. In human history, its most dramatic rise was during the Age of Discovery
when European explorers sailed and charted much of the rest of the world for a
variety of reasons. Since then, major explorations after the Age of Discovery
have occurred for reasons mostly aimed at information discovery.

In scientific research, exploration is one of three purposes of empirical
research (the other two being description and explanation). The term is commonly
used metaphorically. For example, an individual may speak of exploring the
Internet, sexuality, etc.

NOTABLE PERIODS OF HUMAN EXPLORATION

PHOENICIAN GALLEY SAILINGS

The Phoenicians (1550 BCE–300 BCE) traded throughout the Mediterranean Sea and
Asia Minor though many of their routes are still unknown today. The presence of
tin in some Phoenician artifacts suggests that they may have traveled to
Britain. Some scientists speculate that they voyaged all the way to Central
America, although this is disputed. According to Virgil's Aeneid and other
ancient sources, the legendary Queen Dido was a Phoenician from Asia Minor who
sailed to North Africa and founded the city of Carthage.

MINERAL EXPLORATION

Mineral exploration is the process of finding ores (commercially viable
concentrations of minerals) to mine. Mineral exploration is a much more
intensive, organized and professional form of mineral prospecting and, though it
frequently uses the services of prospecting, the process of mineral exploration
on the whole is much more involved.

 * 25 YEARS LIVING OFF-GRID ON A SELF-BUILT FLOATING HOME

Charlie built this beautiful off-grid float home in a remote channel on the
west coast and has been living on it full-time for the past 25 years. His
wife, Ellen, is a newbie to the lifestyle and joined him there 6 years ago.
Together they have lived a quiet life in tune with the weather and the
seasons. In this video, we get a peek at their beautiful home and some
insight into the systems, the work, and the challenges that come with living
this way. The couple relies on solar power for electricity (supplementing
with a generator on grey days), they have a wood stove for heat, propane for
cooking and laundry, and a composting toilet for their waste. There is a
floating greenhouse and some raised garden beds on the deck that provide
approx. 50% of their fresh vegetables in the summer...

 * ABANDONED GHOST SHIP - THE FLOATING HOSPITAL (HISTORIC)

First operating in 1866 after the Civil War, the Floating Hospital was
created to aid unlucky war veteran's. This specific vessel was operated from
the 1970's to specifically help the needy children of New York City's five
boroughs. After years of service the ship fell into disrepair. Another cool
fact about the boat was on September 11th, 2001 the ship was conveniently
docked near the twin towers and helped wounded civilians escape downtown
Manhattan that day. If you enjoyed the video, let me know by leaving a thumbs

   HOW IT WORKS

Jade and Tim decided to live on a float home because it was the perfect
compromise between wanting to live close to nature and needing to live close
to the city for work. Their home is a modern and minimalist black two-story
home that sits on top of a floating foundation made with styrofoam encased in
plywood. The home is 30' long x 20' wide, and the float is 40' long x 20'
wide (the size of a standard float home slip). You can follow and find out

 * LIFE IN A FLOATING SLUM IN AFRICA - MAKOKO

The capital of Nigeria, Lagos, is home to a remarkable yet starkly
contrasting community known as Makoko - a floating slum that vividly embodies
both the resilience of the human spirit and the dire consequences of urban
poverty. Beneath the surface of Makoko's waterborne vibrancy lies a harsher
truth: the waters, a vital life source, are tainted with sewage and
pollution. This environmental crisis is a daily battle for the residents, who
face the constant threat of waterborne diseases. The lack of adequate
sanitation facilities means that much of the waste and sewage from the
densely populated settlement ends up directly in the lagoon, compounding the
challenges of maintaining a healthy living environment. Poverty in Makoko is
pervasive and profound. Yet amidst these hardships, the spirit ...

This stunning 700-square-foot, self-built float home is fully off-grid with
solar power, a pellet stove, a composting toilet, and an evaporation grey water
system that ensures nothing is dumped overboard! It has an open concept kitchen,
living and dining space, a master bedroom and bathroom on the main floor, two
bedrooms on the second floor, and the wraparound deck up top gives 360 degree
views. Take a full tour of this sustainable tiny floating house! You can follow
Jay Blackmore and see more photos from his DIY float home build here:
https://www.instagram.com/floatinthekoots/ Jay built it in his spare time
(between working, spending time with his kids, and sailing) over the course of 4
years as an alternative housing option to the country home he had before, which
he felt was too expensive, too far from town, and too much maintenance. Now he
doesn't have a lawn to mow or a driveway to shovel, and he is walking distance
to all the amenities in town and just a few steps from his sailboat that is
docked in the same marina. It's not an easy lifestyle though, everything that
goes in and out of the float home has to be carried there, including propane
tanks, pellets for the woodstove, groceries, garbage, etc. even in the middle of
winter when docks are icy and the wind is blowing. And it's quite public with
boaters and paddlers going by all day. But Jay says it's all about mindset and
he's okay with these smaller challenges since it allows him a lifestyle that
suits him perfectly. You can follow Jay Blackmore and see more photos from the
float home build here: https://www.instagram.com/floatinthekoots/ Thanks for

Charlie built this beautiful off-grid float home in a remote channel on the west
coast and has been living on it full-time for the past 25 years. His wife,
Ellen, is a newbie to the lifestyle and joined him there 6 years ago. Together
they have lived a quiet life in tune with the weather and the seasons. In this
video, we get a peek at their beautiful home and some insight into the systems,
the work, and the challenges that come with living this way. The couple relies
on solar power for electricity (supplementing with a generator on grey days),
they have a wood stove for heat, propane for cooking and laundry, and a
composting toilet for their waste. There is a floating greenhouse and some
raised garden beds on the deck that provide approx. 50% of their fresh
vegetables in the summer. The rest of their food is bought at the grocery store
in bulk so that they can stay out for 6 weeks or longer at a time. Their home is
quite remote and it's water access only, so have a couple of open boats, and one
enclosed boat for travelling in rough or cold weather. The couple says they
sometimes have to wait more than a week for a weather window to make a safe trip
away from the cabin. In this video, we get a peek at their beautiful home and
some insight into the systems, the work, and the challenges involved in living
this way. "Charlie and Ellen acknowledge and express our gratitude to all those
people and businesses who are on the grid and provide supplies and services that
help us maintain our ability to live out where we do, off-grid and in the
wilderness. We are so fortunate to be where we are and we know we couldn’t do it
without their support.” A very special thank you to Charlie and Ellen for
sharing their story with us, and to Lukáš for making the trip all the way out
there to film them. You can see more of his work here:

First operating in 1866 after the Civil War, the Floating Hospital was created
to aid unlucky war veteran's. This specific vessel was operated from the 1970's
to specifically help the needy children of New York City's five boroughs. After
years of service the ship fell into disrepair. Another cool fact about the boat
was on September 11th, 2001 the ship was conveniently docked near the twin
towers and helped wounded civilians escape downtown Manhattan that day. If you
enjoyed the video, let me know by leaving a thumbs up! Subscribe if you like

Jade and Tim decided to live on a float home because it was the perfect
compromise between wanting to live close to nature and needing to live close to
the city for work. Their home is a modern and minimalist black two-story home
that sits on top of a floating foundation made with styrofoam encased in
plywood. The home is 30' long x 20' wide, and the float is 40' long x 20' wide
(the size of a standard float home slip). You can follow and find out more about
Jade, Tim, and Yoggu Foods here: https://www.instagram.com/yoggu.foods
https://yoggu.ca/ Their journey began 3 years ago while they were living
together on a small trawler-style motorboat. Their moorage (marina rent) was at
risk because any new float home arriving at the marina would have forced them
out of their spot. So they hired a boat house (boat shed) builder to build a
simple float home shell, and then they finished the interior with the help of
friends and family (it helps that Tim is a plumber by trade). The result is a
simple, peaceful, open-concept home that perfectly matches the peaceful river
surroundings. But living on a float home isn't always easy and as the couple
says in this video, it can be like the Wild West. Marinas don't have to follow
the same rules as landlords on land, so there's little security when it comes to
moorage, and there aren't many spaces available for float homes if they do need
to find a new spot, like they did this year. Their original marina raised their
moorage cost by 35% so they went looking for a new spot and were lucky to find
one nearby. We hope you enjoy meeting this couple and checking out their
floating home lifestyle! Thanks for watching!

The capital of Nigeria, Lagos, is home to a remarkable yet starkly contrasting
community known as Makoko - a floating slum that vividly embodies both the
resilience of the human spirit and the dire consequences of urban poverty.
Beneath the surface of Makoko's waterborne vibrancy lies a harsher truth: the
waters, a vital life source, are tainted with sewage and pollution. This
environmental crisis is a daily battle for the residents, who face the constant
threat of waterborne diseases. The lack of adequate sanitation facilities means
that much of the waste and sewage from the densely populated settlement ends up
directly in the lagoon, compounding the challenges of maintaining a healthy
living environment. Poverty in Makoko is pervasive and profound. Yet amidst
these hardships, the spirit of Makoko endures, presenting a deep and complex
life narrative in one of Africa's most dynamic urban landscapes. Let us journey
to Makoko, and explore how people live in the largest floating slum in the
world.

   SPECTACULAR FLOATING HOME IS SELF-BUILT & OFF-GRID

This stunning 700-square-foot, self-built float home is fully off-grid with
solar power, a pellet stove, a composting toilet, and an evaporation grey
water system that ensures nothing is dumped overboard! It has an open concept
kitchen, living and dining space, a master bedroom and bathroom on the main
floor, two bedrooms on the second floor, and the wraparound deck up top gives
360 degree views. Take a full tour of this sustainable tiny floating house!
You can follow Jay Blackmore and see more photos from his DIY float home
build here: https://www.instagram.com/floatinthekoots/ Jay built it in his
spare time (between working, spending time with his kids, and sailing) over
the course of 4 years as an alternative housing option to the country home he
had before, which he felt was too expensive, too far from town, and too much
maintenance. Now he doesn't have a lawn to mow or a driveway to shovel, and
he is walking distance to all the amenities in town and just a few steps from
his sailboat that is docked in the same marina. It's not an easy lifestyle
though, everything that goes in and out of the float home has to be carried
there, including propane tanks, pellets for the woodstove, groceries,
garbage, etc. even in the middle of winter when docks are icy and the wind is
blowing. And it's quite public with boaters and paddlers going by all day.
But Jay says it's all about mindset and he's okay with these smaller
challenges since it allows him a lifestyle that suits him perfectly. You can
follow Jay Blackmore and see more photos from the float home build here:

There is a
floating greenhouse and some raised garden beds on the deck that provide
approx. 50% of their fresh vegetables in the summer. The rest of their food
is bought at the grocery store in bulk so that they can stay out for 6 weeks
or longer at a time. Their home is quite remote and it's water access only,
so have a couple of open boats, and one enclosed boat for travelling in rough
or cold weather. The couple says they sometimes have to wait more than a week
for a weather window to make a safe trip away from the cabin. In this video,
we get a peek at their beautiful home and some insight into the systems, the
work, and the challenges involved in living this way. "Charlie and Ellen
acknowledge and express our gratitude to all those people and businesses who
are on the grid and provide supplies and services that help us maintain our
ability to live out where we do, off-grid and in the wilderness. We are so
fortunate to be where we are and we know we couldn’t do it without their
support.” A very special thank you to Charlie and Ellen for sharing their
story with us, and to Lukáš for making the trip all the way out there to film
them. You can see more of his work here:

First operating in 1866 after the Civil War, the Floating Hospital was
created to aid unlucky war veteran's. This specific vessel was operated from
the 1970's to specifically help the needy children of New York City's five
boroughs. After years of service the ship fell into disrepair. Another cool
fact about the boat was on September 11th, 2001 the ship was conveniently
docked near the twin towers and helped wounded civilians escape downtown
Manhattan that day. If you enjoyed the video, let me know by leaving a thumbs

You can follow and find out
more about Jade, Tim, and Yoggu Foods here:
   https://www.instagram.com/yoggu.foods https://yoggu.ca/ Their journey began 3
years ago while they were living together on a small trawler-style motorboat.
Their moorage (marina rent) was at risk because any new float home arriving
at the marina would have forced them out of their spot. So they hired a boat
house (boat shed) builder to build a simple float home shell, and then they
finished the interior with the help of friends and family (it helps that Tim
is a plumber by trade). The result is a simple, peaceful, open-concept home
that perfectly matches the peaceful river surroundings. But living on a float
home isn't always easy and as the couple says in this video, it can be like
the Wild West. Marinas don't have to follow the same rules as landlords on
land, so there's little security when it comes to moorage, and there aren't
many spaces available for float homes if they do need to find a new spot,
like they did this year. Their original marina raised their moorage cost by
35% so they went looking for a new spot and were lucky to find one nearby. We
hope you enjoy meeting this couple and checking out their floating home
   lifestyle! Thanks for watching!

Yet amidst these hardships, the spirit of Makoko
endures, presenting a deep and complex life narrative in one of Africa's most
dynamic urban landscapes. Let us journey to Makoko, and explore how people
live in the largest floating slum in the world.

This stunning 700-square-foot, self-built float home is fully off-grid with
solar power, a pellet stove, a composting toilet, and an evaporation grey
water system that ensures nothing is dumped overboard! It has an open
concept kitchen, living and dining space, a master bedroom and bathroom on
the main floor, two bedrooms on the second floor, and the wraparound deck up
top gives 360 degree views. Take a full tour of this sustainable tiny
floating house! You can follow Jay Blackmore and see more photos from his
DIY float home build here: https:// www. instagram. com/ floatinthekoots/ Jay
built it in his spare time (between working, spending time with his kids, and
sailing) over the course of 4 years as an alternative housing option to
the country home he had before, which he felt was too expensive, too far
from town, and too much maintenance. Now he doesn't have a lawn to mow or a
driveway to shovel, and he is walking distance to all the amenities in town
and just a few steps from his sailboat that is docked in the same marina.
It's not an easy lifestyle though, everything that goes in and out of the
float home has to be carried there, including propane tanks, pellets for the
woodstove, groceries, garbage, etc. even in the middle of winter when docks
are icy and the wind is blowing. And it's quite public with boaters and
paddlers going by all day. But Jay says it's all about mindset and he's okay
with these smaller challenges since it allows him a lifestyle that suits him
perfectly. You can follow Jay Blackmore and see more photos from the float
home build here: https:// www. instagram. com/ floatinthekoots/ Thanks for

25 YEARS LIVING OFF-GRID ON A SELF-BUILT FLOATING HOME

 * Report rights infringement

Charlie built this beautiful off-grid float home in a remote channel on the
west coast and has been living on it full-time for the past 25 years. His wife,
Ellen, is a newbie to the lifestyle and joined him there 6 years ago.
Together they have lived a quiet life in tune with the weather and the
seasons. In this video, we get a peek at their beautiful home and some
insight into the systems, the work, and the challenges that come with living
this way. The couple relies on solar power for electricity
(supplementing with a generator on grey days), they have a wood stove for
heat, propane for cooking and laundry, and a composting toilet for their
waste. There is a floating greenhouse and some raised garden beds on the deck
that provide approx. 50% of their fresh vegetables in the summer. The rest
of their food is bought at the grocery store in bulk so that they can stay out
for 6 weeks or longer at a time. Their home is quite remote and it's water
access only, so have a couple of open boats, and one enclosed boat for
travelling in rough or cold weather. The couple says they sometimes have to
wait more than a week for a weather window to make a safe trip away from the
cabin. In this video, we get a peek at their beautiful home and some insight
into the systems, the work, and the challenges involved in living this way.
"Charlie and Ellen acknowledge and express our gratitude to all those
people and businesses who are on the grid and provide supplies and
services that help us maintain our ability to live out where we do, off-grid
and in the wilderness. We are so fortunate to be where we are and we know we
couldn’t do it without their support.” A very special thank you to Charlie
and Ellen for sharing their story with us, and to Lukáš for making the trip
all the way out there to film them. You can see more of his work here: https://

First operating in 1866 after the Civil War, the Floating Hospital was
created to aid unlucky war veteran's. This specific vessel was
operated from the 1970's to specifically help the needy children of New
York City's five boroughs. After years of service the ship fell into
disrepair. Another cool fact about the boat was on September 11th, 2001 the
ship was conveniently docked near the twin towers and helped wounded

close to the city for work. Their home is a modern and minimalist black
two-story home that sits on top of a floating foundation made with
styrofoam encased in plywood. The home is 30' long x 20' wide, and the float
is 40' long x 20' wide (the size of a standard float home slip). You can
follow and find out more about Jade, Tim, and Yoggu Foods here: https:// www.
instagram. com/ yoggu. foods https:// yoggu. ca/ Their journey began 3 years
ago while they were living together on a small trawler-style motorboat.
Their moorage (marina rent) was at risk because any new float home
arriving at the marina would have forced them out of their spot. So they
hired a boat house (boat shed) builder to build a simple float home shell, and
then they finished the interior with the help of friends and family (it
helps that Tim is a plumber by trade). The result is a simple, peaceful,
open-concept home that perfectly matches the peaceful river surroundings.
But living on a float home isn't always easy and as the couple says in this
video, it can be like the Wild West. Marinas don't have to follow the same
rules as landlords on land, so there's little security when it comes to
moorage, and there aren't many spaces available for float homes if they do
need to find a new spot, like they did this year. Their original marina
raised their moorage cost by 35% so they went looking for a new spot and were
lucky to find one nearby. We hope you enjoy meeting this couple and checking
out their floating home lifestyle! Thanks for watching!

The capital of Nigeria, Lagos, is home to a remarkable yet starkly
contrasting community known as Makoko - a floating slum that vividly
embodies both the resilience of the human spirit and the dire consequences
of urban poverty. Beneath the surface of Makoko's waterborne vibrancy
lies a harsher truth: the waters, a vital life source, are tainted with
sewage and pollution. This environmental crisis is a daily battle for
the residents, who face the constant threat of waterborne diseases. The
lack of adequate sanitation facilities means that much of the waste and
sewage from the densely populated settlement ends up directly in the
lagoon, compounding the challenges of maintaining a healthy living
environment. Poverty in Makoko is pervasive and profound. Yet amidst
these hardships, the spirit of Makoko endures, presenting a deep and
complex life narrative in one of Africa's most dynamic urban landscapes.
Let us journey to Makoko, and explore how people live in the largest
floating slum in the world.
