ABOUT

Soapbox Republic is a site where curated video from the web is displayed and
critiqued according to set standards, revealing commentary in real time, as the
video plays back.

Check out this demo regarding the first debate between Obama and Romney, and
this demo dealing with remix culture and fair use.

The secret that makes this experience work is an in-development plugin that
connects the timecode of video to content, using a technology called popcorn.js
created by awesome folks at Mozilla. The plugin is designed to be flexible for
use in many situations, but is built with an emphasis on researched analysis –
not just commentary (though it could be used for that if you so choose).

The site/plugin is being built by Nick Ray, graduate student, adjunct professor
for American University’s Digital Media Skills program, and freelance web and
