BACTERIAL VIRULENCE AND CHRONIC INFECTIONS

PRESENTATION

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The laboratory Bacterial Virulence and Chronic Infections, VBIC (University of
Montpellier, INSERM), was created on January 1, 2011, and is located at the UFR
de Médecine Site de Nimes. We have a bench to bedside approach, using
fundamental and translational research to address clinically relevant problems.

In close collaboration between fundamental scientists and clinicians and
biologists at the CHU Nimes, we use integrative and multidisciplinary approaches
to understand the cellular and molecular basis of host/pathogen interactions and
microbial interactions in chronic wounds, and to apply our findings in clinical
practice. We are also the National reference Centre for Brucellosis.

THEMES

 * Brucella virulence
 * Virulence of opportunistic bacteria belonging to the Burkholderia cepacia
   complex
 * Chronic wounds: microbiome, interactome, exposome, resistome
 * Since January 2023, the « Equipe Projet Biology of Staphylococcus
infections« , localised at the Triolet Site in Montpellier has joined VBIC.

KEY WORDS

Brucella, Burkholderia, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, chronic infections,
diabetic foot ulcers, bacterial virulence, type IV secretion systems, zebrafish
infection model

DOMAINS

Bacterial genetics, infection models (cell culture, nematodes, zebrafish),
infection biology, cell biology, cellular microbiology, genomics
