Member Yvonne Lambert plays the Thermin and in their performance of “I Saw the Bright Shinies,” they film in the Moog Sound Lab, putting their Etherwave Theremin front and center. Set in a production studio with colorful lighting to match their signature pop flair, the group reimagines this track using new applications and instruments. This accompanies their latest album released this year, Butterfly in the Sky, the soundtrack to a Reading Rainbow documentary that will be debuted in June at the Tribeca Film Festival. This track is a preview into the upcoming album Soft Continuum, releasing on June 10, 2022. The album will be a re-imagining of Metavari’s 2009 record, Be One of Us and Hear No Noise, dedicated to the band’s founding member, Ty Brinneman, who passed away in 2020. Metavari features the work of composer Nathaniel David Utesch who is the art director responsible for names like The Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Korn, and more. ‘Kings Die Like Other Men’ is accompanied by a theatrical video featuring a medieval battle on horseback, equipped with coats of armor set to their electronic contemporary soundtrack. Estación Sub_Trópico combines influences of the Dominican folk traditions with contemporary electronic themes like minimal, tech, synth, and deep house to embody the spirituality of the culture within a contemporary musical setting. ‘Contacto’ is a synthesized sound and upbeat track accompanied by a visually experimental video that features distorted and fisheye footage from the vantage point of the ground looking up, showing a trippy cityscape perspective against electronic vocals and beats.
