This #BlackBusinessMonth, we’re excited to feature Cheryl Ajamu, Founder and CEO
of The Ajamu Group, LLC.
Cheryl came to Comerica Bank in 2011 with the group’s idea to begin what is now
known as the Multicultural Media Luncheon. We believed in her and her idea, and
the luncheon came to be with our encouragement and support. The first keynote
speaker was Earvin “Magic” Johnson!
The Ajamu Group launched a new brand in July 2021 called BlackGirl Food Critic,
spotlighting Black-owned restaurants on social media. Cheryl and her group hope
to create a TV series revolving around the idea.

Splendor of the East event is a cultural explosion of sound, light, and color
showcasing Michigan’s Asian Pacific American Community. This event brings

This year’s Splendor of the East took place at Stony Creek Metropark, marking
the return of the annual event!

We were proud to partner with the Kalamazoo Growlers to provide over 61,000
meals through the South Michigan Food Bank.
During the food drive, we collected approximately 1,400 non-perishable food
items at local banking centers to aid efforts to combat food insecurity and
added a $10,000 donation to support the community. The South Michigan Food Bank
supplies struggling families with food and financial support to ensure they have
what they need to survive and thrive. Thanks to all who donated this season!

As the winner of the 10th annual Hatch Off, Little Liberia will receive $100,000

#MeetTheBanker! Tasha Clay is the Operations Manger for Business Deposit
Services Financial Services Group here at Comerica Bank! We recently sat down
with Tasha to learn more about her role and her interests outside Comerica.
As the Operations Manager for BDS Financial Services Group, Tasha oversees two
teams that provide services to some of the top Title and Escrow companies in the
Real Estate Industry as well as Union Accounts!
Tasha was previously a part of the same Financial Services Group for 17 years
and returned to Comerica after 2.5 years at Amazon Corporation. She mentioned
that returning to Comerica “feels like home.”
Outside of work, she is interested in creative web design and likes to help
young entrepreneurs build their businesses online and on social media platforms.
Tasha also loves to cook and teaches others how to cook as well!

Comerica Bank has been leading Money $ense workshops for the WestCare Texas
Summer Extravaganza, serving more than 150 students at Artemisia Bowden Dual
Language Academy in June and July.
Our San Antonio Market colleagues, including Market President Rhonda Calvert,
are teaching basic money management principles to students in the first through
11th grades during the first cohort. During the second session, a group of
16-24-year olds will receive an introduction to entrepreneurship and banking
basics.
This eight-week summer program features a variety of classes and field trips
related to STEM, arts, early literacy, financial empowerment, natural science,
and more! We're thankful to be a part of this experience to educate students on

important Asian-heritage stories that have often been overlooked in the past.
Together with our colleagues and collaborative partners, the Association of
Chinese Americans, Inc. and General Motors, we have donated Asian
heritage-themed books to the Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies
School in Detroit, MI, as part of One Book, One World Michigan’s 2022 AAPI Book

Metro Detroit Shred Day! Over 1,100 vehicles took advantage of the free service
during the five-hour event. Check out the results by the numbers:

➡️ Electronics Recycled via Information Systems Resources: 17,700 lbs.
➡️ Meals Generated for Gleaners Community Food Bank: approximately 18,000

Overall, Metro Detroit Shred Day has collected and shredded over 1 million

Shred Day is back! For the first time since 2019, join us in partnership with
Iron Mountain on June 11th to securely shred your paper documents and recycle
electronic devices at the Comerica Bank Livonia Operation Center.
“According to the Federal Trade Commission data released in February of this
year, consumers reported losing more than $5.8 billion to fraud in 2021, and the
number of victims continues to increase,” said Scott Beckerman, Comerica Bank
Senior Vice President & Director of Corporate Sustainability.
“Not only does this initiative protect from fraud, it also positively impacts
the environment and the communities around us,” said Beckerman. “We appreciate
the partnerships involved in supporting this outreach. As we work to contribute
to a more secure and a sustainable future, we likewise want to make a positive
impact in reducing food insecurity during this event. So, we also encourage

#MeetTheBanker Thao Nguyen! Thao is an SVP & Group Manager who just celebrated
her 22nd anniversary at Comerica Bank and is a proud holder of a one-line
resume. 🎉 She joined Comerica in 2000 as a part-time credit specialist and has
since grown and expanded her responsibilities.
Thao values Comerica’s diverse workforce and collaborative culture.
Her favorite part about her job is the opportunity to work with and learn from
her colleagues, coaches, and customers. She believes it is truly a privilege to
earn the trust of our customers and be a part of their success journeys.
A fun fact about Thao is that she has been driving for 25+ years and just
learned how to use the down-shift function in the car. On a recent prospect
visit to San Francisco, she was terrified when she got to a steep hill and
thought the car was going to roll backward. She asked her boss if they could
switch as drivers, but with a smile on his face he told her “No”. At first, she
thought he was kidding, but she was wrong. Instead, he started giving her
instructions on how to use the downshift function and after 10 minutes of riding
through the roller coaster, they made it to the prospect call on time. It was
definitely Thao’s most memorable call in 2022.

We were honored to receive the Leaders in Financial Education (LiFE) Award for
the third consecutive year from the Texas Bankers Foundation. 🏆 This year, the

🔹 What inspired you to start your business?
I have always been drawn to the intersection of commerce and creativity. Staging
uses style and design for a very strategic financial goal--to maximize our
client's return on investment in their homes. I loved the yin/yang of it. It's
artistic, but there's a finite target.
🔹 Tell us about a goal you have as your business grows.
One goal I have is to continue to embrace diversity in my team. To me, diversity
goes beyond race or gender. Surrounding myself with a diversity of perspectives
and life experiences is key to enriching my business and my life.
🔹 How has Comerica Bank supported your growth?
Comerica is like Cheers--they always know my name, and they take care of me.
Running a small business requires a lot of creative strategizing. They never
miss an opportunity to go out of their way and think outside the box to make it
work for me. They make me feel like they are part of my team.
🔹 What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring Black business
owner?
I would give any business owner the same advice: Philiopshically, be true to who
you are and your own brand. You will always come in second place trying to be
someone else. The best business decisions are rooted in loyalty to yourself.
Practically, be realistic about your strengths and weaknesses. Delegate what you
aren't good at or don't enjoy (often the same things) and live every day in the
parts of the business you love and thrive in.

Services at Comerica Bank, Denise provides leadership and oversight for export,
import letters, documentary collections and standby letters of credit service

➡️ COLFETARIE: a European dessert and pastry shop, specializing in Romanian
desserts and pastries. Their goal is to bring together the cultures of Detroit
and Romania, while offering a taste of Europe, right in the heart of Downtown

➡️ Detroit Farm and Cider: a 4.9 acre commercial farm on Detroit’s West side
with plans to build a cider mill and offer youth day camps and horseback riding
classes.

handmade dumplings from scratch. The dumplings come in more than 30 flavors and
range from traditional pork and shrimp Shumai to contemporary western style,

together and collected over 27 bags of plastic and other litter pollution from
the Ned & Genie Fritz Texas Buckeye Trail in South Dallas!

Our new giving program, gomerica Gratitude, kicked off this week, honoring
Habitat for Humanity of Collier County, which has built nearly 2,400 homes and
