THE DREAMING VOID SERIES

6/30/2023

Unfortunately Edeard's luck changes for the worse after Ashwell is raided by
bandits. Initially a loner, Edeard comes to prominence in his village after
designing an alternative pump mechanism for the local well. A gifted psychic,
Edeard is trained by Master Akeem in crafting and modding. The first follows
Edeard, a young boy who lives inside the Void on a planet called Querencia, the
subject of Inigo's dreams.Įdeard, an orphan and apprentice, lives in Ashwell, a
town in Rulan province. The Dreaming Void is broken into two distinct sections.
They are prepared to stop the pilgrimage fleet no matter what the cost.

Other star-faring species fear their migration will cause the Void to expand
again thus devouring the galaxy. By AD 3456, the pseudo-religious Living Dream
movement exceeds 5 billion members, organizing the followers into a powerful
political force. His dreams inspire the disaffected, who desire to travel into
the Void, where their every wish will be fulfilled. In AD 3320, a human member
of the Commonwealth, Inigo, begins to have dreams of the wonderful existence
inside the Void. It is slowly consuming the other stars of the galactic core-one
day it will have devoured the entire galaxy. Inside, there is a strange universe
where the laws of physics are very different from those we know. What was
formerly believed to be a supermassive black hole at the centre of the Milky Way
is revealed to be an artificial construct, known as the Void.

ROLAND BARTHES PHOTOGRAPHY

6/30/2023

It positions an audience in the key part of what is going on and gives the
responsibility of the message to be understandable to its audience for meaning
to take place. Semiotics asks questions such as: How do we use language to
communicate? and, What is the relationship between the words we use and the real
things in the world that we are referring to? Signs can be words, pictures or
symbols and is a way of analysing meanings by looking at signs which communicate
these meanings.Ĭommunication isn’t a straight process, semiotics reveals the
hidden nature of verbal and visual communication the mechanics of communication.

Semiotics is the relationships between signs and what they mean a theory that
was developed in order to understand how language works. The term ‘Semiotics’
comes from the Greek word ‘ semeion’ meaning “sign”.

Barthes was a literary theorist writing about culture and literature, who saw
photography as something more complex in how we read images. Barthes proposed a
way of ‘reading’ photographs based on the existing theory called Semiotics and
we looked at a method Barthes proposed to analyse photographs. During this
lecture we discussed one of the most influential writers of the 20th-century
Roland Barthes, exploring some of his most central concepts in the area of
semiotics (the relationships between signs and what they mean).

BILL MCRAVEN MAKE YOUR BED

6/30/2023

It is not an academic or pretentious book – very down to earth – and he tells
simple stories from his life in the SEAL Teams and translates the lessons to
apply to any walk of life. My Impressions: This is a short, fun-to-read book
that captures highlights of the wisdom that Bill McRaven gleaned from his 36
years in the Navy, amplified by some great stories that drive home the lessons
he intends to impart. Each lesson is from his SEAL experience, and begins with
“If you want to change the world….” He offers the graduating seniors 10 lessons
he learned during his career in the SEALs that may help them in their lives
after graduation, in whatever field they go into. This book is an expansion on
the speech Adm Bill McRaven gave as the graduation commencement speaker for the
University of Texas in 2014 which went viral and became an internet hit. One of
them had read it and said it would be a really good one for us to read and talk
about. Why this book: Selected as a book to discuss by the group of young men I
meet with who are preparing to begin SEAL and SWCC basic training.

ARMADA ERNEST

6/28/2023

So when he sees the flying saucer, he's sure his years of escapism have finally
tipped over into madness.Įspecially because the alien ship he's staring at is
straight out of his favorite videogame, a flight simulator callled Armada-in
which gamers just happen to be protecting Earth from alien invaders.Īs
impossible as it seems, what Zack's seeing is all too real. And too often, he
catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event
could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure. He vastly
prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent
his life consuming. Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality.

“A thrilling coming of age story.”- Entertainment Weekly.mixes Star Wars, The
Last Starfighter, Independence Day, and a really gnarly round of Space
Invaders.”- USA Today A rollicking alien invasion thriller that embraces and
subverts science-fiction conventions, from the author of the
worldwide phenomenon Ready Player One.

AKATA WITCH GOODREADS

6/28/2023

This is mentioned at the beginning and then it is hinted at about half way
though that it’s something the kids will have to deal with. The bulk of this
first instalment is worldbuilding, with Sunny trying to learn all the customs,
rules and how to use her power.īoth the Lamb and Leopard communities are on edge
with a man known as Black Hat abducting and killing children.

She can also learn from the Fast Facts for Free Agents guide which has extracts
throughout the story. For only in these things can we locate and then develop
our most individual abilities.įortunately for Sunny, some other teenagers notice
her power and take her under their wings. We embrace those things that make us
unique or odd.

Her parents are Lambs (non-magical people) and therefore don’t know about her
magic, and she must keep it that way. She’s always been an outsider, an albino,
American born and now living with her Nigerian family in Aba, Nigeria. Sunny
discovers she is a Leopard Person later than most of her kind do. There is a lot
to love about Akata Witch so it was a bit frustrating that the story didn’t get
going until really half way through.

volcano crater and find a slope downward. In Reykjavik they hire a guide named
Hans, a placid and stoic man of large size. Lidenbrock and Axel leave Hamburg
and travel to Iceland.

Axel is reluctant until his fiancée Grauben, his uncle’s ward, tells him that he

DOVEY COE BY FRANCES O'ROARK DOWELL

6/27/2023

Things don't look too good for Dovey when she comes to and finds her enemy dead
on the floor next to her. Dovey gets in her jabs whenever she can-until the day
she finds herself trapped in a back room with an irate, vengeful Parnell. But
behind her back, he treats Dovey and her deaf brother Amos like dirt all summer
long. It all started when the wealthy, vain, greedy Parnell takes a notion to
win Dovey's older sister, trying to convince her she's too pretty to go off to
college. But now, faced with a murder trial, she may just have to keep her mouth
shut while the slick city lawyer takes care of things. Twelve-year-old Dovey has
never had the slightest problem speaking her mind. I hated Parnell Caraway as
much as the next person, but I didn't kill him." I'm here to lay the record
straight, to let you know them folks saying I done a terrible thing are liars.

"My name is Dovey Coe, and I reckon it don't matter if you like me or not.
