EXPLORATION

Exploration is the act of searching for the purpose of discovery of information
or resources. Exploration occurs in all non-sessile animal species, including
humans. In human history, its most dramatic rise was during the Age of Discovery
when European explorers sailed and charted much of the rest of the world for a
variety of reasons. Since then, major explorations after the Age of Discovery
have occurred for reasons mostly aimed at information discovery.

In scientific research, exploration is one of three purposes of empirical
research (the other two being description and explanation). The term is commonly
used metaphorically. For example, an individual may speak of exploring the
Internet, sexuality, etc.


NOTABLE PERIODS OF HUMAN EXPLORATION


PHOENICIAN GALLEY SAILINGS

The Phoenicians (1550 BCE–300 BCE) traded throughout the Mediterranean Sea and
Asia Minor though many of their routes are still unknown today. The presence of
tin in some Phoenician artifacts suggests that they may have traveled to
Britain. Some scientists speculate that they voyaged all the way to Central
America, although this is disputed. According to Virgil's Aeneid and other
ancient sources, the legendary Queen Dido was a Phoenician from Asia Minor who
sailed to North Africa and founded the city of Carthage.

Mineral exploration is the process of finding ores (commercially viable
concentrations of minerals) to mine. Mineral exploration is a much more
intensive, organized and professional form of mineral prospecting and, though it
frequently uses the services of prospecting, the process of mineral exploration
on the whole is much more involved.

 * SCARY NIGHTTIME EXPLORATION OF THE ABANDONED MINE AND CABINS WHERE THREE
   MINERS WERE MURDERED
   
   Murder Gulch is where the three Gates brothers — Ben, Joseph, and Luke — dug
   a profitable silver mine back in the late 1800s. Unfortunately, word got out
   about the success of their silver mine which cost them their lives. An
   unknown person rode across the desert and up into Murder Gulch late one night
   while the three brothers lay sleeping in their three separate cabins outside
   the mine’s entrance. Each brother was swiftly and savagely killed with a
   single gunshot to the head. The murderer made off with an unknown amount of
   silver ore and money and was never identified or caught. The Gates brothers'
   mine was worked sporadically by other miners in the years afterward, but
   interest in the mine and general area slowly dwindled and finally died in the
   1940s. Not much is left of the remote minin...

profitable silver mine back in the late 1800s. Unfortunately, word got out about
the success of their silver mine which cost them their lives. An unknown person
rode across the desert and up into Murder Gulch late one night while the three
brothers lay sleeping in their three separate cabins outside the mine’s
entrance. Each brother was swiftly and savagely killed with a single gunshot to
the head. The murderer made off with an unknown amount of silver ore and money
and was never identified or caught. The Gates brothers' mine was worked
sporadically by other miners in the years afterward, but interest in the mine
and general area slowly dwindled and finally died in the 1940s. Not much is left
of the remote mining area these days as the desert has slowly and successfully
reclaimed its land. Nobody lives there anymore. Some say, however, that the
ghosts of the three Gates brothers still haunt the abandoned mine and cabins in
Murder Gulch. Intrigued by the stories, I decided one night to hike to Murder
Gulch and the Gates brothers’ abandoned mine and cabins. I was pleasantly
surprised to discover that the mine was fairly extensive with impressive
timbering. The cabins are still standing but are in varying stages of decay.
Outside one of the cabins I discovered what appeared to be some kind of void
directly under the surface of the ground. Perhaps this was where they had
stashed their money and silver ore that the murderer stole 150 years ago. Who

   Murder Gulch is where the three Gates brothers — Ben, Joseph, and Luke — dug
   a profitable silver mine back in the late 1800s. Unfortunately, word got out
   about the success of their silver mine which cost them their lives. An
   unknown person rode across the desert and up into Murder Gulch late one night
   while the three brothers lay sleeping in their three separate cabins outside
   the mine’s entrance. Each brother was swiftly and savagely killed with a
   single gunshot to the head. The murderer made off with an unknown amount of
   silver ore and money and was never identified or caught. The Gates brothers'
   mine was worked sporadically by other miners in the years afterward, but
   interest in the mine and general area slowly dwindled and finally died in the
   1940s. Not much is left of the remote mining area these days as the desert
   has slowly and successfully reclaimed its land. Nobody lives there anymore.
   Some say, however, that the ghosts of the three Gates brothers still haunt
   the abandoned mine and cabins in Murder Gulch. Intrigued by the stories, I
   decided one night to hike to Murder Gulch and the Gates brothers’ abandoned
   mine and cabins. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the mine was
   fairly extensive with impressive timbering. The cabins are still standing but
   are in varying stages of decay. Outside one of the cabins I discovered what
   appeared to be some kind of void directly under the surface of the ground.
   Perhaps this was where they had stashed their money and silver ore that the
   murderer stole 150 years ago. Who knows? *********** NOTE: This video was

Mur­der Gulch is where the three Gates broth­ers — Ben, Joseph, and Luke — dug a
prof­itable sil­ver mine back in the late 1800s. Un­for­tu­nate­ly, word got out
about the suc­cess of their sil­ver mine which cost them their lives. An
un­known per­son rode across the desert and up into Mur­der Gulch late one night
while the three broth­ers lay sleep­ing in their three sep­a­rate cab­ins
out­side the mine’s en­trance. Each broth­er was swift­ly and sav­age­ly killed
with a sin­gle gun­shot to the head. The mur­der­er made off with an un­known
amount of sil­ver ore and money and was never iden­ti­fied or caught. The Gates
broth­ers' mine was worked spo­rad­i­cal­ly by other min­ers in the years
af­ter­ward, but in­ter­est in the mine and gen­er­al area slow­ly dwin­dled and
fi­nal­ly died in the 1940s. Not much is left of the re­mote min­ing area these
days as the desert has slow­ly and suc­cess­ful­ly re­claimed its land. No­body
lives there any­more. Some say, how­ev­er, that the ghosts of the three Gates
broth­ers still haunt the aban­doned mine and cab­ins in Mur­der Gulch.
In­trigued by the sto­ries, I de­cid­ed one night to hike to Mur­der Gulch and
the Gates broth­ers’ aban­doned mine and cab­ins. I was pleas­ant­ly sur­prised
to dis­cov­er that the mine was fair­ly ex­ten­sive with im­pres­sive
tim­ber­ing. The cab­ins are still stand­ing but are in vary­ing stages of
decay. Out­side one of the cab­ins I dis­cov­ered what ap­peared to be some kind
of void di­rect­ly under the sur­face of the ground. Per­haps this was where
they had stashed their money and sil­ver ore that the mur­der­er stole 150 years

EXPLORATION

Exploration is the act of searching for the purpose of discovery of information
or resources. Exploration occurs in all non-sessile animal species, including
humans. In human history, its most dramatic rise was during the Age of Discovery
when European explorers sailed and charted much of the rest of the world for a
variety of reasons. Since then, major explorations after the Age of Discovery
have occurred for reasons mostly aimed at information discovery.

In scientific research, exploration is one of three purposes of empirical
research (the other two being description and explanation). The term is commonly
used metaphorically. For example, an individual may speak of exploring the
Internet, sexuality, etc.


NOTABLE PERIODS OF HUMAN EXPLORATION


PHOENICIAN GALLEY SAILINGS

The Phoenicians (1550 BCE–300 BCE) traded throughout the Mediterranean Sea and
Asia Minor though many of their routes are still unknown today. The presence of
tin in some Phoenician artifacts suggests that they may have traveled to
Britain. Some scientists speculate that they voyaged all the way to Central
America, although this is disputed. According to Virgil's Aeneid and other
ancient sources, the legendary Queen Dido was a Phoenician from Asia Minor who
sailed to North Africa and founded the city of Carthage.
