Email Address: Follow * HOME 13 This blog was created to pass on tips, tricks, and experiences that I have learned over the years working with all sorts of computers and electronic devices since an early age, it all started with a Commodore 64! For over 20 years I have been building, modding, over clocking and tweaking computers, phones, tablets and other electronic devices. My passion is wireless internet (WiFi) with a dash of network security and information security thrown in for good measure. I’ve worked on everything from a 286 intel pc and gradually worked my way through 386 & 486 intel pcs using DOS, in the days before the GUI of Windows 3.1. In those days I clearly remember booting up my pc, firing up my 9600 baud modem and logging into public and not so public BBS’ and entering a world of information that only people in the “know” could obtain. It was a pretty archaic way to get information compared to today, but back then it was pretty exciting. One of my first tweaks was over clocking a 386 computer, so that I could run my own BBS…”HaVoc’s Lair”. Most people today that use the internet have no idea that before you could access the World Wide Web, the only way you would connect to another computer was to use a modem and tie up your parents phone line! Can you imagine today trying to get onto Facebook, receive a busy signal and have to wait for someone to get off the line before you could get on? In those days you had to have patience! Those days are long gone, information and easy access to information is everywhere. People today take for granted the technology that they have access to on a daily basis. A world of knowledge accessed instantly on almost any device…this is a world luxury. No more waiting…Death to Dial UP! (Hooray!) Yes it is great, but how we do tend to forget the past! Then came along faster modems, faster pcs and finally access to the “internet“! Oh how I do NOT mourn the modem nor the frustration of 14.4k, 28.8k, 36.6k, and finally 56k dial up speeds! Games of that era were in no way the same as games of today… There was no Minecraft, no WarCraft, no Candy Crush, heck there were not even pictures and if you were lucky enough to find someone hosting a game, it was a text based RPG. Anyone remember Legend of the Red Dragon “LORD“? I remember the Christmas morning that we woke up to find that my older sister received an Atari game system. Now if your parents loved you, you would have had an Atari too, and this game system had images! Oh what fun those games were, but in todays standards they are considered “vintage” or even “ancient”. Personally for myself, I do not consider myself to be vintage nor ancient! Enough reminiscing about the past… I currently live, work, and reside in a world of ever changing technology. I will be updating this blog with current and revalent information (and maybe a little “old school” tech thrown in for giggles)… Hopefully you will learn a few things, and if I get something wrong feel free to correct me, I’m not an expert at everything!
