Frequently asked questions
What are "claims"?

Unslashed Finance provides an insurance service. Capital providers can supply it
to fund the insurance pool of a given blockchain application or service enabling
others to subscribe to an insurance cover.
While supplying capital, providers are eligible to earn a premium.
Any user of an application covered by an Unslashed insurance policy can
instigate a claim if any incident occurs: the claim is reviewed and if valid,
the user will be eligible for compensation.
How are claims reviewed?

Each cover has a corresponding insurance policy that defines the compensation
conditions. It's the base document used to assess the relevancy of submitted
claims.
When submitting a claim, users are asked to submit additional information,
including evidence demonstrating that they effectively sustained losses due to
the incident and therefore are eligible for compensation. To facilitate the
claim process, users are able to select amongst a list of already reported
incidents or signal a new one if it's not already listed.
To make sure Unslashed claims' dispute resolutions are as fair and transparent
as they can be, thanks to Kleros and their decentralized court system.
What are the different types of covers?

Three different types of cover are available on Unslashed. Not all covers
require a subscription for the end-user to be eligible for compensation.
The Base Cover corresponds to a given amount of collateral provided directly by
the Blockchain Application . It enables coverage for all users of the dApp,
without requiring a subscription.
On top of the Base Cover, teams behind protocols covered on Unslashed can also
supply a dApp Cover, used to sponsor premiums. Thanks to the dApp Cover,
end-users of the dApp can subscribe to a cover without fees.
Finally, the user cover is the most straightforward - it's paid directly by the
end-user to hedge against risks of an incident of a given service. If the
service in question has a dApp Cover, (part of) the premium paid by the user
will be paid by the dApp provider instead.
If a claim is accepted, who's paying for it?

Successful claims are settled using the capital pooled by the different
providers (such as dApp teams or users). The base cover is always the first pool
used to cover compensations, before the dApp or User cover.
In that sense, the Base Cover also helps reduce the risk exposure of capital
providers. Indeed, every successful claim does not necessarily translate into
losses for capital providers: it does only if the base cover is depleted.
In that case, the funds are deducted directly from the pool of capital supplied
so the impact is evenly distributed on each provider proportionally to their
exposure.
What are "group claims"?

To facilitate the claiming process and avoid redundancy, Unslashed Finance
supports group claims. For instance, if a service covered by Unslashed Finance
suffers an incident, its users can easily join the group claim corresponding to
the issue on Unslashed.
How long does the payment take?

The dispute resolution process is handled by the Kleros Courts.Claims usually
take around 5 days to be reviewed, depending on their complexity and whether
they've been challenged or not.
Funds corresponding to the claims are made available as soon as the Kleros
courts give their ruling.
