Being with my family and getting our names. The service we received from arriving at the airport to leaving the airport. Each day we went to different cities, doing tours, enjoying different restaurants food and staying at different hotelsWe had plenty of time to shop and explore. To walk and know the path our ancestors walked from Slave River to the Dungeons was difficult, but i'm glad i know. The AC staff made sure we had an intro with every stop. I now know my African name as our Tour Coordinator Ayesha coordinated a special naming ceremony for us. This was so very special!!! We had very long days, filled with many experiences. As a opportunity, the timing of our transportation could have been worked better. We got to learn background and history of the places that we were taken to before we got there which I truly appreciated. The cultural and educational sites were so meaningful, the home of WEB Dubois, the oldest slave dungeon in Ghana, the Slave River, and Nkrumah's grave to name a few. The tour guides for the museums were very knowledgeable. Having an experienced tour guide on the bus who provided extensive information and to whom we could address questions made the experience all the more rewarding. Dr. Hakeem and her husband's comments bridged African history to African American history and the many cultural connections. The naming ceremony, viewing a real Asante chief's ceremony, and cultural celebrations added beautiful color to the experience. There was scheduled time for relaxation as well as sites. The selection of vendors provided for quality purchases. We were able to experience three different regions of the country. You will enjoy this trip even more if you are open to new ways of seeing societies, food, and cultures. Every day provided for new discoveries. The tempo is not that of the US, allowances must be made for an occasional inconvenience, and bumpy roads at times. I certainly will recommend this tour to my friends and family and I look forward to taking another tour with African Connections. We were invited to attend zoom meetings to prepare us for the trip and received very useful information to help make our trip memorable. We were met upon arrival at the airport by our hosts and guides. Our time was filled with tours and memorable dinners and entertainment. From Accra to Elmina to Cape Coast, each stop was a different history lesson from Ghanaian and American perspectives. We had plenty of time to shop and explore and see the real Ghana.
