State Broadband Survey info

This 5-minute survey is designed to gather information on locations without
adequate internet access and speeds in the state. The information gathered from
the survey will provide clear data to guide the investment of funds through the
state’s Growing Rural Economies with Access to Technology (GREAT) grant program,
inform research and policy recommendations, and support strategic targeting of
additional funding streams. The survey is a collaboration between NCDIT’s
Broadband Infrastructure Office (BIO) and the Friday Institute at NC State
University. 

The survey focuses on broadband access at a particular location. It also
includes an optional internet speed test. Respondents can report on one of the
following locations:

 *        Home
 *        Business
 *        Farm 

Accurate data collection is a foundation for broadband planning work across the
state.  Moving forward there will likely be a greater need for a standardized
statewide data set, primarily because of new federal and state funding sources
tied to eligible areas and locations. Counties and municipalities can utilize
this tool as an official part of broadband planning work, and outreach campaign
materials are available for use.

participate.


FOR HOMES & BUSINESSES WITHOUT INTERNET SERVICE

To report locations without internet service, participants can take the survey
by phone. Residents without internet service but with phones capable of text
messaging can text “internet” to 919-750-0553. Standard text messaging rates
will apply.

CAN'T TEXT?

Residents with landlines or cellphones that do not have texting capability may
place a voice call to 919-750-0553. An interactive voice response system will
guide them through a series of short questions to obtain the caller’s address
and register it in the database as having no internet capability at all.

 

 


VACANT COMMUNITY BOARD POSITIONS

The Gates County Board of Commissioners needs citizens of the County to serve on
various Boards that make decisions that will impact economic development,
community development & quality of life in Gates County. There are currently
county-wide openings for these Boards. The Board is actively engaged in making
appointments/re-appointments to the Gates Board of Social Services and the Gates
Voluntary Agriculture District Advisory Board. Citizens of the County interested
in serving on these boards need to fill out the application for “Commissioner
Appointment to Authorities, Boards, Commissions, and Committees” located on the
Gates County Website.
