K. Storke Ranch · 3 days ago Looking for the woman whose dog bit my daughter at Haskell's beach this past Sunday 10/27/24. The woman was early 40s (but I really didn't look closely), wearing a light blue athletic hoodie, dark hair past shoulders. Dog was medium/large - med/long hair with long hair on tail, I believe Australian Shepard black and white with some brown to the best of my recollection. If you see the post (or know who this might be), please contact me, as we just want to ask a couple of quick questions about the dog. Wish we had gotten your contact information that day but my daughter was in a hurry to leave. The dog chased us on our bikes and my daughter stopped because she thought it would help. We both stood still while the dog went back and forth between the two of us several times, barking, until he nipped my daughter's leg. Thank you:) See more 21 Like 20 S. G. Dos Pueblos/El Encanto · a week ago Bank Fraud Alert - Just a reminder to be careful when you get a call from someone claiming they are from your bank. I almost got caught this morning with a call from someone saying a check was trying to be cashed at a Chase bank that seemed suspicious/fraudulent. I didn't google the phone # right away like I normally would and thankfully didn't give the guy any information that would have helped him commit fraud before we got disconnected. He was asking me to give him a code to verify who he was talking to, but the code never came through on my end. (Thankfully!) I think he was trying to access the online banking with it by resetting my password. He did manage to disable my online account though. I have reported it to my bank. Don't give any codes to someone who called you and if you are calling a number back, verify it is really your bank's number. The person I spoke to at the bank said this has happened to several of their customers. During this time strong winds in excess of 35 mph across the county are possible. The forecast also includes a widespread increase in temperatures for both mountain and coastal areas. Additionally, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Santa Barbara County interior mountains. Hot and windy conditions greatly increase the risk for dangerous wildfires. Avoid hazardous activities that may cause sparks or start a wildfire. Detailed weather forecasts are available at https://www.weather.gov/lox/. Additionally, Southern California Edison (SCE) has notified customers that it is considering a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in parts of Santa Barbara County due to an increased risk for wildfires. This outage may begin as soon as Wednesday, October 2 at 3:00 p.m., though it may occur earlier or later depending on actual weather conditions. While SCE has sent notifications to those impacted, if you are unsure if your home or business is potentially impacted, go to the Outage Center map link below and put in the address to see if its included. https://www.sce.com/outage-center/check-outage-status SCE will have a Community Resource Center at the Residence Inn at 6350 Hollister Ave in Old Town Goleta tomorrow Wednesday, October 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m to support those impacted by potential PSPS. Spanish-speaking SCE staff will be available. This site will provide a safe location to recharge electric devices, and access PSPS event information. Other resources and services such as water, snacks, accessible restrooms, and Wi-Fi may be available, dependent on the facility. No overnight service is provided. For the latest information go to www. While extra caution is needed on the morning of October 9, with increased foot and bike traffic, it’s important to stay alert every single day. Drivers should: 🚨 Be prepared to stop for school buses and children crossing the street. 🚨 Always watch their speed and slowdown in school zones. The Goleta Police Department offers tips for students who walk, bike, or roll to school: ⚠️ Plan your route on roads with sidewalks or paths away from traffic. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible or ride your bike in the same direction as traffic as far on the right-hand side as possible. ⚠️ Use crosswalks, preferably at stop signs or signals. If there are unmarked crosswalks, cross at corners on streets with fewer lanes and lower speed limits. ⚠️ Always look left-right-left before crossing the street. Continue to scan for traffic as you cross the street. ⚠️ Watch for cars entering/leaving driveways or parking spaces. ⚠️ Never assume a driver sees you. Make eye contact with drivers as they approach to make sure you are seen. ⚠️ Always wear a helmet when riding or rolling. ⚠️ Be visible at all times. Wear bright clothing during the day, and wear reflective materials or use a flashlight when it’s dark. ⚠️ Stay alert. Don’t be distracted by electronic devices that take your eyes (and ears) off the road. Schools are encouraged to register at www.walkbiketoschool.org as a way of tracking participation and showing support for active, healthy, and safe transportation. **The City of Goleta is sharing this information from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office.** See more 2 Like GOLETA SANITARY DISTRICT a week ago Agency Goleta Valley! Here is a throwback to our "Can The Grease This Holiday" post. It’s that time again, the holiday season when many of us are cooking meals to share with loved ones and friends. A gentle reminder to never pour fats, oils or grease (FOG) down your sink. FOG congeals and clogs pipes, which can cause sewage backups. Collect your FOG after it cools and place it in a can, jar, or other vessel to be disposed of in the trash. If possible, you can also collect it and take it to the Community Hazardous Waste Collection Center on the UCSB campus at the Environmental Health and Safety Building, Building 565, Mesa Rd.
