Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have one more game before a highly
anticipated NFC East rematch. This time, it's an opponent with a winning record
as the Seattle Seahawks visit Thursday night before the Cowboys (8-3) get a
little break in anticipation of the Philadelphia Eagles coming to town Dec. 10.
Dallas, which has a 13-game home winning streak, has beaten three consecutive
double-digit underdogs by an average of 30 points.

FSU REJOINS UGA, U-M, WASHINGTON IN CFP TOP 4

November 28th , 2023

Florida State moved back into the top four and Ohio State dropped four spots to
No. 6 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.
Georgia remained No. 1, while Michigan moved up one spot to No. 2 and Washington
is No. 3. The Wolverines beat the rival Buckeyes 30-24 on Saturday to clinch a
spot in the Big Ten championship game and deal a big blow to Ohio State's
playoff hopes. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 1 in the first CFP rankings Oct. 31.
Ohio State also lost to Michigan last year but made it into the playoff after
USC lost in the Pac-12 championship game. There is one key difference from last
year: Ohio State dropped to No. 5 after the loss to Michigan. This year, the
Buckeyes will need more help to finish in the top four.

PURDUE ASCENDS TO NO. 1 AFTER RUN TO MAUI CROWN

November 27th , 2023

Purdue is back atop The Associated Press Top 25 men's college basketball poll,
right where it spent so much of last season. The Boilermakers ascended to No. 1
on Monday after an impressive run through a loaded field at the Maui
Invitational. They beat Gonzaga, Tennessee and Marquette -- three of the top 11
teams in the nation -- in consecutive days, and that was enough to earn 60 of 63
first-place votes from the national panel of Top 25 voters. It took the
Boilermakers until Dec. 12 to reach No. 1 last year, where they spent seven
weeks over two different stints. Purdue replaced preseason No. 1 Kansas, which
fell to fifth after losing to Marquette in the Maui semifinals and then
rebounding to beat Tennessee in the third-place game. Arizona moved up one spot
to No. 2 with one first-place vote, Marquette climbed a spot to third and UConn
was fourth with two first-place votes. The defending national champion Huskies
play the Jayhawks on Friday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

U-M, WASHINGTON, FSU FOLLOW UGA; BUCKEYES 6TH

November 26th , 2023

No. 3 Washington, No. 4 Florida State and No. 5 Oregon all moved up a spot in
The Associated Press college football poll Sunday, giving the Pac-12 two
top-five teams for the first time since the final ranking of the 2016 season.
Georgia remained No. 1 as the two-time defending national champions have been
for 24 straight polls, dating back to the middle of last season. The Bulldogs
received 52 of 62 first-place votes. Michigan returned to No. 2 following a week
at No. 3 and received 10 first-place votes after beating Ohio State 30-24 in Ann
Arbor on Saturday. The Buckeyes slipped from second to No. 6, clearing the way
for Washington to reach its best ranking since finishing the 2000 season at No.
3 and setting up a top-five matchup with Oregon in the Pac-12 championship game
Friday in Las Vegas. The final Pac-12 championship game in the conference's
current form before 10 members leave for other Power 5 conferences will be its
first matching top-five teams.

ABERG TIES 72-HOLE RECORD FOR FIRST PGA TOUR WIN

November 19th , 2023

Ludvig Åberg added to his astonishing second half of the year when he closed
with a second straight 9-under 61 on Sunday to win the RSM Classic, his first
PGA Tour title to go along with a European tour victory and a winning debut in
the Ryder Cup. And to think the 24-year-old Swede was still at Texas Tech six
months ago. Not only did he win the final event of the PGA Tour season, but he
did it in record fashion. His final birdie allowed Aberg to tie the 72-hole
scoring record on the PGA Tour, matching the 253 of Justin Thomas at the 2017
Sony Open. His 61-61 finish set the tour record for lowest closing 36 holes,
beating by 1 the mark shared by Matt Jones at Kapalua in 2022 and Patrick
Rodgers at Sea Island in 2019. Aberg seized control with three straight birdies,
one of them when he fearlessly drove over the marsh on the 407-yard fifth hole
to 30 feet, and then held off Hughes, a hard-luck victim. Hughes shot 60-63 on
the weekend and finished 4 shots behind.

ALLEN ROUTS CRAIG, CALLS FOR NO. 1 CONTENDER SHOT

November 18th , 2023

Brendan Allen picked up his sixth consecutive victory Saturday and immediately
called for a No. 1 middleweight contender fight. The UFC might be hard-pressed
not to give him one. Allen (23-5), of Louisiana, improved to 11-2 in the UFC
with a submission win over Paul Craig (17-7-1). The finish came via rear-naked
choke at the 38-second mark of the third round. It was a dominant performance
from start to finish by Allen in the main event at UFC Fight Night inside the
Apex facility in Las Vegas. Allen, 27, hasn't fought anyone ranked in the top
five of the division outside of current champion Sean Strickland, who beat him
via TKO in 2020. He looks more than ready for that kind of test, however, as he
has recorded finishes in eight of his 11 UFC wins. Saturday's win over Craig, a
dangerous submission specialist, played out like a showcase bout. Allen hurt him
on the feet multiple times and showed no respect for his ground game.

IT'S UNANIMOUS: OHTANI, ACUNA WIN MVP AWARDS

November 16th , 2023

Shohei Ohtani and Ronald Acuna Jr. were each named the Most Valuable Player of
their respective leagues in unanimous fashion Thursday, an unprecedented
occurrence in the 92-year history of the award. Ohtani, a captivating free agent
coming off another historic two-way season, also became the first player to win
the award unanimously on two occasions, having done so in 2021. Corey Seager and
Marcus Semien, the Texas Rangers' star middle infielders, finished second and
third, respectively, in the American League. Ohtani received all 30 first-place
votes from the Baseball Writers' Association of America even though he did not
pitch for most of the last two months of the Los Angeles Angels' season. He
celebrated by high-fiving a puppy that sat on his lap throughout the
proceedings.

SD'S SNELL WINS 2ND CY YOUNG; YANKS' COLE HIS 1ST

November 15th , 2023

San Diego Padres starter Blake Snell won his second Cy Young Award on Wednesday,
this time in the National League, while New York Yankees hurler Gerrit Cole took
home his first award unanimously after twice coming in second and finishing in
the top five three other times. Snell became the seventh player -- and second
left-hander -- to win the award in each league, joining Gaylord Perry, Pedro
Martinez, Randy Johnson, Roger Clemens, Roy Halladay and Max Scherzer. He
previously won the AL Cy Young while a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018.
Cole, 33, was 15-4 with an AL-leading 2.63 ERA and league-high 209 innings. He
also led the league in fewest hits allowed (6.8) per nine innings, as well as
WHIP (0.981). He's the second No. 1 overall pick to take home the award, joining
David Price in 2012.

WHITE ABARRIO ROARS TO A 2023 BREEDERS' CUP CLASSIC WIN

November 4th , 2023

White Abarrio storms down the final stretch and holds off Arabian Knight to win
the Breeders’ Cup Classic with Irad Ortiz Jr. in the irons. Richard Dutrow Jr.
trainee eventually passed Arabian Knight in the stretch and no one could catch
him to the wire. Derma Sotogake and Proxy soon overtook Arabian Knight, but no
one was able to keep pace with White Abarrio. This is Dutrow’s second Breeders’
Cup Classic win. This is Dutrow’s first Breeders’ Cup since serving a 10-year
suspension that began in 2013 after exhausting all of his legal appeals fighting
numerous charges regarding medication and administrative violations, including
the discovery of syringes filled with unauthorized medication in his barn. White
Abarrio paid $7.20, $5.20 and $3.80 while carrying jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. to his
19th career Breeders’ Cup win.

RANGERS TAKE OUT D-BACKS FOR FRANCHISE'S 1ST WORLD SERIES TITLE

November 1st , 2023

Max Scherzer found Adolis Garcia amid a scramble near the Chase Field pitcher's
mound Wednesday night -- moments after a 5-0 victory that sealed the first
championship in Texas Rangers history, when the emotions of it all were still
fresh -- and hugged him so tight it seemed as if he'd never let go. A mere 28
hours earlier, the Rangers learned they would have to win two more World Series
games without Scherzer and Garcia, both of whom suffered season-ending injuries
in Game 3. That they did so immediately and vanquished the Arizona Diamondbacks
by winning Games 4 and 5 in their building spoke to what many have long believed
to be the most important aspect of this high-priced, decorated group of players:
That no matter what took place, they were going to find a way.

BLANEY WINS 1ST NASCAR CUP TITLE

October 29th , 2023

Ryan Blaney raced to his first career NASCAR championship on Sunday by banging
his way past contender Kyle Larson in the closing laps at Phoenix Raceway to
give Team Penske back-to-back Cup titles. The third generation racer is the
first Ohio-born driver to win the Cup title, and he followed teammate Joey
Logano, who won the Cup for Roger Penske a year ago. It was an amazing finish
for Ford Performance, which struggled most of the season but came on late with
Blaney, who won two of the final six playoff races. The title was the fourth in
the Cup Series for Penske, but it is the first time "The Captain" has
consecutive Cups. His IndyCar program won back-to-back championships in 2016 and
2017 with Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden, and Penske has 44 total
championships across motorsports. Blaney then noted how important it was to win
for Penske; the 86-year-old was recently hospitalized with shingles and missed
Blaney's win at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday.

FURY ESCAPES WITH SPLIT DECISION OVER NGANNOU

October 28th , 2023

In a shocking turn of events, Tyson Fury was forced to survive a third-round
knockdown to eke past Francis Ngannou via split decision Saturday in Riyadh,
Saudi Arabia. One judge scored it 95-94 for Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight
champion, but was overruled by tallies of 96-93 and 95-94 for Fury. Fury's WBC
heavyweight title wasn't on the line in the 10-round boxing match. Ngannou was
making his pro boxing debut in his first fight since January 2022. England's
Fury was installed as a -1400 favorite to win the match. He moves on to an
undisputed heavyweight championship fight against Oleksandr Usyk despite
arguably his worst performance against Ngannou. The Fury-Usyk fight, perhaps the
biggest in boxing, is already signed and planned for Dec. 23 in Riyadh, but it's
unclear if the fight will happen on that date. Fury was cut over his left eye
and forehead and suffered damage against Ngannou. He would have to turn around
and fight Usyk in less than two months.
