[MB23] MISERY BUSINESS
BY: Zekiel Gallagher
In spite of earlier predictions from hopeful astronomers that the sun would soon
return, our little desert town remains awash in darkness. The historical society
has heard your scared cries in the dark and graciously arranged a fundraiser to
support research into this rare astronomical phenomenon. Local businesses have
risen to the occasion and most generously donated auction “items” to be bid on.
This October, in what is widely regarded as the most romantic of months, the
Historical Society has partnered with local businesses and Sun Relief volunteers
to arrange a series of romantic blind date experiences - maybe you’ll meet your
soulmate, or maybe you’ll never speak to them again - either way, it’s for a
good cause, and sure to be one unforgettable night under the stars. One hundred
percent of the proceeds will go to the Deadwater Sun Absence Relief Fund and
towards bolstering the local solar research effort.

Midnight Sky

Our charming old town district where Deadwater was first settled. Town
ordinances have protected and preserved as much of the original false front
architecture of Main Street businesses as possible. Except for the stand-alone
building over there in the back. It’s been boarded up and sectioned off for as
long as anyone remembers. Nevermind those weird symbols. A short stroll away
from the downtown area is our Town Hall, public library, the sheriff’s office
and Winston Park.

Fluffy and Tacky

In the northwest region of Deadwater, stately hills overlook the rest of the
town. Known for its beautiful sunlit views and magazine-spread style dream
homes, this district is objectively an ideal place to live if you can afford it.
While most of the BV is residential, there is one higher-end strip mall located
at the base of the hills. As long as you ignore the dark hooded figures seen
skulking around the hills here every full moon, you’ll be happy to call Buena
Vista home.

Home to such strange and mysterious creatures as the jackalope, chupacabra and
little green or gray men. This is the outskirts of Deadwater and beyond where
time might not run as linearly as we think. Where anything and nothing are
possible. Although some fragments of civilization can be found out here in the
desert sand, it is a mistake to think this land can be civilized or owned.
