MORE FROM THE MIT COMMUNITY
ALUMNI IN ACTION

Before co-founding Piction Health, Susan Conover SM ’15 experienced a long,
anxious wait to see a dermatologist. Now, her startup uses machine learning to
help doctors classify certain skin conditions so patients can “get the care they
need at the right time,” she says.

IN THE MEDIA

The New York Times reports that MIT startup VulcanForms has developed a 3-D
printer that can “generate 100 times the laser energy of most 3-D printers.”
Co-founder Martin Feldmann notes that “additive manufacturing lets us rethink
how we build things.”

#THISISMIT

Instagram post via @rangerunitalpha: “Hope everyone had a great 4th of July!”

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Digital Currency Initiative Director Neha Narula serves as a crucial link
between cryptocurrency developers and central banks. “We want to understand the
implications of different technology designs,” she says, because ready or not,
“money is really changing.”

RESEARCH NEWS

LIDS researchers are helping to make features used in machine-learning models
more understandable for end users. “Out in the real world,” Alexandra Zytek
says, “there is still a lot of confusion stemming from the features, not from
the model itself.”

RESEARCH NEWS

A new robotic system uses radio frequency signals, computer vision, and complex
reasoning to efficiently find items hidden under a pile. Its algorithms locate
more hidden items than other sophisticated robotic systems, and in half the
time.
