(KRCR) 0 REDDING, Calif. — Tuesday's Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting was disrupted when speaker Alex Bielecki used the n-word during a public comment, which led to an African-American Nathan Blayz being escorted from the meeting for protesting. Blayz, a frequent speaker at supervisors' meetings, was sitting in the front row when he responded to the use of the racial slur by shouting and calling Bielecki a "racist piece of expletive." Board Chair Patrick Jones said he ejected Blayz for being disruptive and allowed Bielecki to finish his commentary because it was protected under his right to free speech. And I just pray that they can remain peaceful and have peaceful protests if it gets to that point." "I'd rather not have any protests, but this story is not going to go away. While I wholeheartedly support our first amendment right to free speech, the intolerant speech in our chamber yesterday does not reflect its values," Garman continued. "I would like to apologize to Nathan -- Nathan I'm truly sorry for what happened [Tuesday]," he apologized. "I completely understand why he was compelled to speak out. Nathan is a frequent attendee of our board meetings and has never caused a problem. He did not need to be escorted out in the way he was".
