WELCOME TO THE HEATHROW STRATEGIC PLANNING GROUP


OUR PURPOSE

The Heathrow Strategic Planning Group (HSPG) is a unique collaboration of Local
Authorities surrounding Heathrow Airport. Our vision is to operate on a
sub-regional level to develop a functional and sustainable economic area across
Local Authorities around Heathrow Airport.

The HSPG was established in 2015 to help shape the proposed expansion plans for
Heathrow Airport, regardless of individual members’ support or opposition to it.

We advise and have expertise across land use planning, transport, environmental
impact, economic development, airspace management, and sustainable development.
We have a particular focus on supporting the sub-region to decarbonise and
develop credible pathways to achieve net zero.

We operate on a sub-regional level and work constructively with, but
independently of, Heathrow Airport Limited (HAL), as well as with local and
national stakeholders including the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the
Department for Transport.



OUR WORK

Our work includes promoting the airport’s role in providing jobs and skills to
local people and advocating for the better use of airspace to reduce noise
impacts on local people. We also call for improved sustainable transport links
to the airport and the surrounding areas to reduce congestion and tackle poor
air quality. More recently our work has included exploring the potential impacts
of new forms of technology on our members (including electric vertical take-off
and landing aircraft – eVTOL – and drones).



LATEST NEWS

Given the pause in Heathrow Airport's expansion scheme proposals, and the impact
of Covid 19, the HSPG refocused its objectives and priorities.

We publish a monthly newsletter covering the latest news in aviation from
updates on airport expansion projects across the UK, to progress towards
decarbonisation. Read our newsletters below and sign up to our mailing list.
