Whether you’re pulling your first print or knotting your hundredth hand-bound
book, we believe in your creative potential. As a nonprofit arts center with
spacious studios, two galleries, and a book arts-themed shop, we provide access,
educational opportunities, and room to explore.

East Asian Stab Bindings

Stab bindings feature single sheets bound with decorative, exposed sewing at the
spine. Often referred to as Japanese, the stab binding was developed in many
East Asian countries including Japan, China, and Korea, as well as Vietnam—in
Southeast Asia.

Finnish Paper Stars

The Finnish eight-pointed paper star is a cheerful presence in the dark of
winter. It is larger and easier to make than the more familiar Moravian star.
This in-person workshop will offer the opportunity to make two sizes of stars:
one large enough for a window or door, the other small enough to fit in your
hand.

The “exquisite corpse” game is a drawing activity where each participant takes a
turn creating a part of the drawing without knowing what the others have added
until the finished drawing is revealed at the end.

SHOP INFORMATION

Hours
The Shop at MCBA is open Tuesday–Saturday 10am-5pm and Thursday 10am-7pm.

Shipping and Returns
Orders are shipped via USPS every Friday by 12pm and will arrive within 5–8
business days after processing time. Please note that all consignment work is
non-refundable and retail returns are accepted within 10 days of sale. If you
have any questions regarding your order, please email theshop@mnbookarts.org.

In Store Pickup
Items are available for free in-store pickup Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–5pm. When
placing your order, choose “Pickup” as your order option. Please add your name
and a planned pickup day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday)
when prompted.

Our Consignment Artists
Learn more about the 200+ local, national, and international book artists who
sell work in our Shop.

Gift Certificates
Gift certificates obtained through our main website may be applied toward
in-store purchases, as well as workshops and studio rentals. We are currently
unable to apply gift certificates to online shop purchases. Please contact
theshop@mnbookarts.org if you have any questions about gift certificates.
