PROJECTS

OUR INTERNSHIP LOCATION

ABOUT

We are a dedicated team with diverse backgrounds and a shared passion for
learning and applying Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies. During
our internship, guided by GIS specialist Michael Moller, we explored tools like
ArcGIS Pro and Google Earth Pro, conducting spatial analyses for projects such
as the Building Entrance Survey and Vacation Log Project. This hands-on
experience not only enhanced our technical proficiency in GIS applications but
also sharpened our ability to communicate complex spatial data effectively.

In addition to GIS, we immersed ourselves in Infrastructure and Communication
(INC) Administration, led by Khalif Ross, where we delved into tasks like
configuring Cisco Unified Communications Manager and managing data security
protocols. This exposure provided us with hands-on experience in network
administration and communication systems management, crucial for future roles in
IT infrastructure.

Furthermore, our time with the Client Support Specialist (CSS) team, led by Glen
Hall, equipped us with essential skills in computer hardware assembly,
troubleshooting, and operating system installation. This practical knowledge,
combined with our exposure to customer service dynamics, prepared us for
delivering effective IT support solutions in professional environments.

Our engagement with the Database Administration team, led by Hasan Shaik,
focused on mastering SQL Server management and database backup procedures. This
experience bolstered our technical proficiency in database administration and
collaborative problem-solving skills, laying a solid foundation for our future
careers in IT and database management.

Throughout our internship, we not only deepened our technical expertise but also
honed our collaborative and communication skills, ensuring that we are
well-prepared to contribute effectively to projects requiring GIS analysis, IT
infrastructure management, client support, and database administration.

Development Experience

During our 40-hour stint over 6 days with the Development team, led by Tenario
Powell, we focused on advancing existing technologies and creating new solutions
through research and innovation. Our activities centered on utilizing Visual
Studio for HTML, JavaScript, and CSS projects, adhering to industry best
practices with Bootstrap templates sourced from GitHub. This experience
significantly enhanced our technical proficiency in front-end development and
fostered a deeper understanding of software development methodologies.

Throughout our internship, we deepened our technical expertise and honed
collaborative and communication skills, ensuring readiness to contribute
effectively to projects requiring GIS analysis, IT infrastructure management,
client support, and database administration.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM

WHAT IS GIS?

GIS (Geographic Information System) integrates computer hardware and software to
store, manage, analyze, edit, output, and visualize geographic data. It's a
powerful tool used across various industries to make informed decisions based on
spatial analysis..

TEAM LEAD

Our mentor and team lead throughout the internship was GIS specialist Michael
Moller. Through our time with Michael, we gained insights into practical
applications of GIS in real-world scenarios as well as utilization of maps to
obtain data in historical settings

DURATION ON THE TEAM

BUILDING ENTRANCE SURVEY PROJECT

 * Data Collection Project: We meticulously surveyed and logged the
characteristics of each building's entrances within the municipal block. This
included measuring distances from parking lots, identifying
disability-accessible entrances, noting public or private access, and
documenting whether each entrance served as an entry, exit, or both. We then
visually compiled our findings onto Google Earth pro, and presented our data
along with our conclusions to both the GIS department head and our team lead.
Our detailed findings were crucial in providing actionable insights to the
   GIS department.

VACATION LOG PROJECT

 * Utilizing Google Earth Pro: On a team with three interns, we used Google
Earth Pro to familiarize ourselves with its functionalities. Using lines,
polygons, and points, we tracked our diverse vacations, leveraging spatial
elements to visually represent and narrate our travel experiences.
