What We Do:

Women's marginalisation is pervasive across our society. But the situation is
even more gruesome for rural women in terms of literacy, health, hygiene,
self-defence, and independence. Empower Bharat developed a unique platform
called "STREE" - Safety Training for Rural Equality and Empowerment. where rural
women and girl children can receive all safety training at one place.
Additionally, this platform gives women's organisations/ groups the opportunity
to market their handmade goods and gain financial independence.

Mithali Raj
“Mithali Dorai Raj is a former Indian cricketer and the highest run-scorer in
women's international cricket and regarded as one of the greatest female
cricketers of all time. Born in Jodhpur, Raj started playing cricket at a very
young age, and made her debut for India in 1999, at the age of 17. In her debut
series, she scored 214 runs in two ODIs, including a century in the second
match. This century made her the youngest player ever to score a century in
women's international cricket. Raj's early international career was marked by
consistent performances, and she quickly established herself as one of the
leading batswomen in the world. In 2002, she became the first player to score
seven consecutive 50s in ODIs. In 2005, Raj was appointed as the captain of the
Indian women's team. Under her leadership, India reached the final of the 2005
Women's Cricket World Cup, where they finished runners-up to Australia. Raj was
the leading run-scorer of the tournament, with 252 runs in five matches. In
2006, Raj became the first woman cricketer to surpass the 7,000 run mark in

set a new Asian record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.73 seconds. Usha's

Dipa Karmakar
“Dipa Karmakar is an Indian gymnast from Tripura who rose to fame in the

young age of six, under the guidance of her first coach Bisbeshwar Nandi. She
quickly showed a natural talent for the sport and began competing at the state
and national level. In 2007, she won her first national medal, a bronze in the
women's vault event. As her career progressed, Karmakar started to make a name
for herself on the international stage. In 2010, she won a bronze medal in the
vault event at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. In the same year, she also won a

at a young age, she started to swim at the age of 5 and by the age of 15, she
had already completed a number of long-distance swims in the Ganges river,
including a 30-mile swim from Diamond Harbour to Kolkata. Her training for the
English Channel swim was intense and rigorous. She trained for months, swimming
in the sea and building up her endurance. Her coach, Pradeep Kumar Saha, was a
renowned long-distance swimmer himself and provided her with the necessary
guidance and support to prepare for the swim. On 29 September 1959, Aarti set
out to make history by becoming the first Asian woman to swim across the English
Channel. The swim was not an easy one, as she faced strong currents and choppy
waters. Despite the challenges, she persevered and completed the swim in 14
hours and 45 minutes. Her achievement was widely reported in the media and
celebrated in India. After her successful swim across the English Channel, Aarti
went on to swim across several other major waterways, including the Rangoon
