MID CANTERBURY (ASHBURTON) The Mid Canterbury region covers the central South Island between the Rakaia and Rangitata rivers. SOUTH CANTERBURY (TIMARU) The South Canterbury region lies between the Rangitata and Waitaki rivers, and includes the Waimate and Mackenzie Districts. WEST COAST (GREYMOUTH) The West Coast/ Te Tai o Poutini is a 400km long region between the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea, including Buller, Grey and Westland Districts. CHATHAM ISLANDS The Chatham Islands form an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean about 680km (423 miles) southeast of mainland New Zealand.
