EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT...

 * Slide 1 of 3

   QANTAS

   Hundreds of Qantas engineers have walked off the job for 24 hours after
   long-running pay negotiations between unions and the airline stalled.

   About 500 engineers across airports in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide
   and Perth started walking off the job from 3:30am local time on Friday.

   The industrial action will end at 7:30am local time on Saturday at each
   airport, but additional strikes are planned for next Friday, December 20.

 * Slide 1 of 3

   MURDER CHARGE

   A man has been charged with murder over the fatal shooting of
   UnitedHealthcare's CEO.

   Luigi Mangione, 26, was spotted by a McDonald's worker who recognised his
   face from media coverage.

   Mangione was found with a 'ghost gun' similar to that used to kill insurance
   boss Brian Thompson.

 * Slide 1 of 3

   SYRIA

   Ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family have reportedly fled
   to Russia where they have been granted asylum.

   Assad fled Syria as rebel forces entered the capital Damascus.

   It's been described as a 'watershed moment in Syria's history'.

 * Slide 1 of 3

   SOUTH KOREA

   South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law then revoked it
   just hours later.

   It caused a tense night of political drama in which troops surrounded
   parliament before politicians voted to reject military rule.

   It was the first time martial law had been declared in South Korea in more
   than four decades.

 * Slide 1 of 3

   BIDEN PARDON

   US President Joe Biden has granted his son a full and unconditional pardon.

   The White House has repeatedly said the president would not intervene in
   Hunter Biden's court cases.

   The president said he believed there was a political element to the
   convictions.
