486,530 trees planted in Peru🌱🙌🎉 These native tree species were planted to
restore 394.8 hectares of land across Southeastern Peru’s Amazon Basin, Madre de
Dios. This area of the Madre de Dios region is home to over 10% of the world's
bird species. As the trees grow, they will restore and protect the "buffer zone"
between Tambopata National Reserve, Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, and the city
of Puerto Maldonado. Planting trees here will help conserve habitat for Jaguars,
pumas, ocelots, armadillos, tapetis and hundreds of other species living in the
protected and surrounding areas, while providing sustainable livelihoods to
local farming families and communities. The trees planted were mainly cacao, as
well as supportive species for ecological benefit, that include Laurel, Cedar,
Caoba, Blanco, and Bolaina. Dolomite is added to the acidic soil to help balance
the pH level and create healthy conditions for new growth, and grafting is also
used as part of the cultivation process to help ensure abundant — and accessible
— harvests. The model of agroforestry being implemented here ensures that only
lands that were previously degraded by cattle grazing and poorly farmed former
monocultures are eligible. This way, primary or otherwise intact forests are
protected. Over 200 farming families will benefit from this project, all of
which are Fair Trade Certified (and some are Certified Organic). Thank you to

We planted trees in NYC with Scarlett Johansson, @theoutset, and @nyrp🌲🤗 Last
week, all of our teams got our hands in the dirt at Highbridge Park to plant 65
native trees which overlook the Harlem River. The Outset is also helping us
tackle reforestation at a larger scale by supporting our forest fire recovery
projects in California by planting up to 25,000 during Earth Month! Thanks so

Willow trees planted by volunteers in Washington!🌱🙌🌿 ⠀ The Treefender had a
special opportunity to make it out to Washington for the Earth Month event
hosted by @pcei_naturecenter. It was a blast! ⠀ At the event we: ⠀ 🌱Planted
native willow trees 🪳Learned about aquatic insects 🥾 Went on an ecosystem hike
🌼Observed local seeds and recently planted native flowers ⠀ Back to the trees.
We planted willows along the bank to not only prevent erosion but to also create
habitat, improve water quality, and feed the beavers! What’s really cool about
willow planting is that new trees can be propagated from branches. You just trim
a branch, put it in water for 1-2 days, the branch will begin rooting, and then
you just find a soft area along the river bank to shove the branch into the
earth. Once the trees grow big and strong, it becomes a resource to propagate
even more trees! This area is super important to restore an maintain as there is
only about 1-2% of the native landscape that remains👏 ⠀ Thanks so much to our

Not a massive tree trunk!🌲😯 The Treefender road trippers stopped by Devil’s
Tower in Wyoming. This place is full of heritage and beauty! First off, we were
very honored and privileged to experience this sacred ground. At this monument
you will find spiritual rituals and tales from local Indigenous people. It was
said that this rock tower would rise to protect the people from bears. The
Arapaho say that the ridges in the rock were created by a Bear Girl who slipped
off the rock while claiming it. There have also been tales that this land is
healing. People have reported that spending as little as a day here will help
heal any ailments they may have. Regardless, it’s beautiful. Even in the
