Cefn y Waun really is far from the madding crowd! ‘Cefn y Waun’ translates to
“the back of the heath” which perfectly describes the rural location of the
cottage, on the ridge of the Hay Forest. 

Peace and quiet is guaranteed as the cottage is located in our privately owned
200 acre woodland, through which guests have the freedom to wander. Right on the
doorstep are The Black Mountains which offer fantastic walking country, with
breath-taking views extending to the Brecon Beacons, the Radnorshire hills and
across to the English borders. 

Explore the local town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its independent boutiques and
countless bookshops. Choose from a great range of pubs and restaurants, before
making your way back to Cefn y Waun for a soak in the deep bathtub or to relax
in the cosy sitting room in front of the wood burning stove, maybe with a glass
of wine.

There is no better way to relax than in our log fired cedar hot tub. Situated in
the secluded grounds of the cottage, with the breath-taking views of the Black
Mountains, the hot tub is an optional extra which is available to hire
throughout the year for just £55 per visit. 

There are no nasty chemicals in our tub, just clean fresh water and the cost
includes three crates of wood and a crate of kindling. This will be enough wood
to get the hot tub up to temperature and to provide a further use the following
day. How much wood you will use depends on the amount of time you use the tub
and the gap between each session. The tub has an insulated cover to help keep
the temperature in when not in use.

Additional crates of wood, for use in the hot tub or the log burner inside the
cottage, are available for an additional £13 per crate.

Whether you are looking for a secluded romantic getaway, a peaceful escape from
it all, or an active walking holiday, Cefn y Waun offers everything you need. 

With spectacular views from every window, the cottage offers the comfort and
convenience of a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy sitting room with digital TV,
whilst retaining its original charm with flagstone floors, a log burning stove
and exposed beams. 

The accommodation sleeps up to six adults.

The Kitchen

The kitchen features a flag stone floor and is well equipped with handmade oak
fitted units, an electric cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer,
Belfast sink, washing machine and pine dining table and chairs
Sitting Room

The sitting room has a quarry tiled floor with rugs and a huge fireplace with a
cosy wood burning stove. The super-comfortable sofas and chairs are dressed with
plenty of plump cushions. Here you will find the TV and DVD player. Logs for the
wood burner are available to pre-order for £10 per crate.
Bedrooms

Upstairs is one double and one twin bedroom, both lovingly furnished and
beautifully decorated with comfort and relaxation in mind. Downstairs is another
double bedroom, equally well appointed and which has its own en suite bathroom.
Bathrooms

The upstairs family bathroom, which is light and fresh, has a bath with a hand
held shower, hand basin and WC. The ground floor en suite has a walk in shower,
hand basin and WC.
Log Fired Cedar Hot Tub

Soak in our log fired cedar hot tub whilst soaking up the breath-taking views of
the Black Mountains! Located within the secluded private grounds of the cottage,
our hot tub is a real treat.
Garden

The fenced in garden offers garden furniture and a BBQ – perfect for summer
evenings. A gravel drive provides plenty of space for parking and of course,
there is the 200 acres of private woodland to explore!

We had an amazing time in your cottage! Cottage is beautiful and very clean and
host provided everything we needed and even more (welcome pack full of treats)!
Views are so stunning and we loved hot tube at night with beautiful sky full of
stars. Location is so private and nobody around only sheeps we had really lovely
walks in woods. I would definitely recommend this cottage so far the best one I
ever been to. We are already planning our next visit.

We have just come back from our 3rd visit to the cottage and it was, again,
fabulous!! We deliberately chose this place for our honeymoon 2 years ago as we
wanted to take our 2 working dogs, who are very much family, but they are not
great with other dogs or people. It was perfect!! The cottage itself (with the
newly added 3rd bedroom which is absolutely gorgeous!) is so remote that unless
you drive out of the grounds (set within 200 acres of private woodland), you are
unlikely to bump into anyone - just how we like it!!

We have visited the cottage once before and enjoyed it just as much this time.
We had wonderful weather and enjoyed the hot tub in the evening watching the
bats. We will return again for sure.

We spent a magical week at this lovely, comfortable and very welcoming cottage.
At the end of the track on the edge of woodland it has stunning views to Hay
Bluff and the Black Mountains. There are great walks from the house, a good pub
and an organic veg place in the nearby village, Hay's bookshops to explore and I
had an excellent days trail (pony) ride from Talgarth... but most of all we
enjoyed just being at the cottage - an utterly peaceful place to relax, read,
stare at the view, listen to the wind and the birds and have a much needed rest
from busy lives! We're already plotting our return...
