WINTER DRIVING
JUNE/JULY/AUGUST

There are more weather-related injury crashes occurring during Winter/Autumn in
Northland. Injury crash numbers increase to approximately 36% on State Highways
and 41% on Local Roads in Northland during Winter.

Police targeting 'RIDS' - Restraints, Impairment, Distractions, Speed - reflects
ongoing key factors in crashes across Northland. 'SEAT BELTS ON' - Too many
motorists unnecessarily dying unrestrained, impaired and speeding.

NORTHLAND'S ANNUAL ROAD TOLL OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS

On average, 1 person is killed every day on New Zealand roads and another 7 are
seriously injured. Deaths or serious injuries should not be an inevitable cost
of travelling. Northland roads are challenging and unforgiving.
The goal is to reduce death & serious injury crashes by 40% by 2030 is the
driving force behind the Road to Zero Strategy 2020-2030.
