The United States has a rich heritage of train travel. Many of the innovations
of modern trains originated in the United States, and it was trains that played
a pivotal role in closing the frontier and consolidating the United States.

Perhaps no train journey is as epic as Amtrak's Grand National Parks of America
adventure to 12 national parks, six major cities, and 17 destinations in seven
states. This journey includes many connections and tours by bus and mid-size car
rentals.

THE 25-DAY ITINERARY CROSSES FROM COLORADO TO UTAH TO WYOMING TO CALIFORNIA TO
ARIZONA TO ILLINOIS TO MONTANA AND FINALLY TO WASHINGTON

The Grand National Parks of America adventure starts in the Colorado city of
Denver (where passengers spend the first two nights) before visiting their first
national park — the majestic Rocky Mountain National Park.

From there they board the first train, Amtrak's California Zephyr, as they
journey to Utah to explore the state's mighty five national parks: Arches,
Canyonlands, Zion, Bryce, and Capital Reef.

From there, the adventure travels west to the twin national parks of Grand Teton
and Yellowstone, where passengers enjoy a wildlife tour. Keep an eye out for
some of America's most iconic wildlife, including bison, wolves, brown bears,
elk, and mountain lions. The tour visits some of the most famous destinations in
Yellowstone, including Mammoth Hot Springs, Hayden Valley, and the Old Faithful
Geyser.

After Yellowstone, the journey heads west to San Francisco and to Yosemite
(where visitors are awed by El Capitan, Yosemite Falls, giant sequoias, and
other landmarks) before going to Los Angeles and then on to the Grand Canyon.

After exploring the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, ride the Southwest Chief all
the way to Chicago and then take the Empire Builder back across the nation to
Glacier National Park in Montana. The final leg of the journey is to ride on to
Seattle where everyone explores Mount Rainier and visits the top of the Space
Needle.

Most meals are generally not included, although it does include three breakfasts
and two dinners. Complimentary meals are provided for those who book sleeper
accommodation (roomettes and bedrooms). Amtrak trains also offer cafés and other
onboard services.

Accommodation for the night is split between hotels and onboard the Amtrak
trains. In all, there are 19 nights' hotel accommodation and 5 nights onboard
the Amtrak trains.
