PLENARY SPEAKERS Xiao-Dong Zhou University of louisiana at lafayette USA >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Xiao-Dong Zhou is currently the Stuller Endowed Chair in Chemical Engineering and Director for the Institute for Materials Research and Innovation at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Zhou’s research interests are the synthesis, characterization, and theoretical understanding of materials for fuel cells, batteries, electrolyzers, and gas separation membranes. He is recognized for the fundamental understanding of materials and interfaces for the activation of small molecules, such as O2, CO2, and CH4. Zhou has his BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from the East China University of Science and Technology, and a PhD in Ceramic Engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. He received an ECS High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes Division J. Bruce Wagner Young Investigator Award and Department of Defense DARPA Young Investigator Award. He serves the Society as a Technical Editor of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society in fuel cells, electrolyzers, and energy conversion. The former chair of the ECS High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes Division, Zhou has served on the board of directors and on several ECS committees. He is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed publications. Ephraim Suhir Portland State University USA >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Ephraim Suhir is on the faculty of the Portland State University, Portland, OR, USA. He is also CEO of a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) ERS Co. in Los Altos, CA, USA, is Foreign Full Member (Academician) of the National Academy of Engineering, Ukraine (he was born in that country); Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Optical Engineers (SPIE), and the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS); Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), the Institute of Physics (IoP), UK, and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE); and Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Qiming Zhang Penn state university USA >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Qiming Zhang is a Distinguished Professor of Engineeringat the Pennsylvania State University, USA, since 2006. His research covers fundamentals and applications of electronic and electroactive materials, especially polymers and nanocomposites, and their energy storage and conversion applications. Zhang invented relaxor ferroelectric polymers which possess highest dielectric permittivityat room temperature and giant electroactuation. The relaxor polymers have been commercialized by Arkema. He founded a successful startup company, StrategicPolymers Inc. (now Novasentis, Inc.), in commercializing the polymer devices for energy conversion applications. In 2008, he discovered giant electrocaloric effect in polymers, creating unique opportunity for solid state coolingwith high efficiency and zero green greenhouse gas emission. More recently, his group developed dilute polymer nanocomposites in which ultra-low volume loading of nanofillers, through interfacial effects, generate marked enhancement in dielectric constant and breakdown strength, leading to high energy and power densities. He authored and co-authored over 470 journal publications and has 21 patents. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of APS. Lingai LUO French National Center for Scientific Research France >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Pr. Lingai LUO is Research Director of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). She was Direction member of LTEN and the director of LOCIE, bothLaboratories of CNRS. She was the cofounder and coordinator of Sino-French Collaboratory for Environmental and Process Engineering and the director of its successor Sino-French Laboratory for Sustainable Energy of French CNRS and Chinese Academy of Sciences.She is mainly engaged in the intensification of heat and mass transfer and the efficiency optimization in different energy components, systems and processes. She has developed an original strategy on the optimization of energy systems by a multi-scale approach associated with an innovative method of optimized management of fluid distribution. Shi is the author of 2 books and over 130 journal articles. She is serving as subject editor of Energy Journal, and associate editor of three others Journals. Yoon Bong Hahn Jeonbuk National University South Korea >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Professor Hahn is Regents Professor of the Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), Fellow of the Korea Academy of Science and Technology (KAST), Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM). He joined JBNU in 1991, prior to which he worked for LG Metals Research Center for 1988-1991 after he received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from University of Utah in 1988. His research interest is synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanostructures and their applications for solar cells, chemical and biological sensors, and printed elecronics, resulting in over 340 SCI papers (over 14700 citaions, h-index over 63 in Google scholar) and 18 patents. He aslo authored or edited 6 books including Metal Oxide Nanostructures and Their Applications (5 volume sets) published by American Scientific Publishers in 2010. He received MCARE Best Research Award 2019 and Woo SeongIl Materials Award 2018 by KIChE, Asian Energy Technology Award 2017 by International Association of Advanced Materials, Rudolf A. Chua Kian Jon National University of Singapore Singapore >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. Chua Kian Jon is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore. He has been conducting research on renewable energy systems and heat recovery systems since 1997. He has conducted both modelling and experimental works for specific thermal energy systems. He is highly skilled in designing; fabricating; commissioning and testing many sustainable energy systems to provide for heating, cooling and humidity control for both small and large scale applications. He has been elected to several fellowships including Fellow of Royal Society, Fellow of Energy Institute and Fellow of IMechE. He has more than 200 international peer-reviewed journal publications, 6 book chapters and tworecent monographs on advances in air conditioning . He was highlighted among the top 1% of scientists in the world by the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network and top 0.5% in the Stanford list of energy researchers. His works has garnered more than 11,000 over citations with a current h‐index of 56. Further, he owns more than 10 patents related to several innovative cooling and dehumidification systems. On a regular basis, he has been invited to deliver many plenary and keynote talks on his research findings. He is the Principal Investigator of several multi-million competitive research grants. Additionally, he has been awarded multiple local, regional, and international awards for his breakthrough research endeavours. Junying Zhang Beihang University China >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Junying Zhang graduated from Tsinghua University with a Ph.D. and joined Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics as a lecturer, associate professor, professor and doctoral supervisor. Visiting Scholar at Oxford University in 2015. Outstanding graduates of Tsinghua University, outstanding graduates of Beijing, selected as Beijing Science and Technology Rising Stars, Ministry of Education New Century Excellent Talents Program, and funded by the Fok Yingdong Education Fund. He has presided over more than ten projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key/General Program and 863 Program. He has co-published more than 190 SCI papers, with an H factor of 44, and won the second prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education. He received his doctoral degree in 1992 from the University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, France andjoined the faculty of the University of Namur in 1995 and is a full Professor since 2002.He holds also a strategy scientist position at the Wuhan University of Technology. Prof. Suwas appointed as President of the commission for the senior member selection, IUF (Academic Institute of France, 2020) and was elected as President of the International Mesostructured Materials Association in 2021. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Amjad Anvari-Moghaddam Aalborg University Denmark >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Amjad Anvari-Moghaddam is an A/Professor and Leader of Intelligent Energy Systems and Flexible Markets (iGRIDS) Research Group at the Department of Energy (AAU Energy), Aalborg University where he is also acting as the Vice-Leader of Power Electronic Control, Reliability and System Optimization (PESYS) and the coordinator of Integrated Energy Systems Laboratory (IES-Lab). His research interests include planning, control and operation management of microgrids, renewable/hybrid power systems and integrated energy systems with appropriate market mechanisms. He has (co)authored more than 260 technical articles, 5 books and 11 book chapters in the field. Dr. Anvari-Moghaddam serves as the Associate Editor of the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER SYSTEMS, IEEE Access, IEEE Systems Journal, IEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy, and IEEE Power Engineering Letters. He is the Vice-Chair of IEEE Denmark and IEEE-PES Danish Chapter and serves as a Technical Committee Member of several IEEE PES/IES/PELS and CIGRE working groups. Sheffield John William Purdue University USA >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. John W. Sheffield is a Professor of Engineering Technology at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A. His professional career in hydrogen energy technologies began in 1976 when he was working for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Florida developing high-power, continuous wave, hydrogen-fluoride and deuterium-fluoride chemical lasers. Later, Dr. Sheffield served as one of the founding associate directors at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization - International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (UNIDO-ICHET) in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Sheffield received his Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and his Master of Engineering Mechanics and his Ph.D. in Engineering Science & Mechanics degrees from North Carolina State University. For more than 44 years, Dr. Sheffield has served as an editor of the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, the official journal of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy. INVITED SPEAKERS Kennel Ralph Technical University of Munich Germany >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Ralph M. Kennel was born in 1955 at Kaiserslautern (Germany). In 1979 he got his diploma degree and in 1984 his Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Kaiserslautern. From 1983 to 1999 he worked on several positions with Robert BOSCH GmbH (Germany). Until 1997 he was responsible for the development of servo drives. Dr. Kennel was one of the main supporters of VECON and SERCOS interface, two multi-company development projects for a microcontroller and a digital interface especially dedicated to servo drives. Furthermore he took actively part in the definition and release of new standards with respect to CE marking for servo drives. Between 1997 and 1999 Dr. Kennel was responsible for "Advanced and Product Development of Fractional Horsepower Motors" in automotive applications. His main activity was preparing the introduction of brushless drive concepts to the automotive market. From 1994 to 1999 Dr. Kennel was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne (England, UK). From 1999 - 2008 he was Professor for Electrical Machines and Drives at Wuppertal University (Germany). Since 2008 until his retirement in 2022 he was Professor for Electrical Drive systems and Power Electronics at TechnischeUniversitaetMuenchen (Germany). His main interests are: Sensorless control of AC drives, predictive control of power electronics and contactless energy transmission. Dr. Kennel is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Fellow of IET (former IEE) and a Chartered Engineer in the UK. Within IEEE he was Treasurer of the Germany Section as well as Region 8 – furthermore he has been Distinguished Lecturer of the Power Electronics Society (IEEE-PELS) as well as Vice President Meetings of the same society. In 2018 Dr. Kennel received the Doctoral degree honoris causa from Universitatea Stefan cel Mare in Suceava (Romania). Dr. Kennel has received in 2013 the Harry Owen Distinguished Service Award from IEEE-PELS, the EPE Association Distinguished Service Award in 2015 as well as the EPE Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019. Dr. Kennel was appointed “Extraordinary Professor” by the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) from 2016 to 2019 and as “Visiting Professor” at the Haixi Institute by the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 2016 to 2021. Saadawi City University of New York USA >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Tarek N. Saadawi has been with the Electrical Engineering Department of City College, CUNY, since 1980. His current research interests are wireless networks, multimedia networks, ad hoc networks, and packet radio networks. He has published extensively in the area of telecommunications networks. He is a coauthor of a textbook on telecommunications and a former Chair of IEEE Computer Society of New York City (1986–1987). He received the IEEE Region 1 Award in 1987. He is an applied and environmental economist with extensive expertise in cost-benefit analysis, non-market valuation, impact assessment, mechanism designs, and sustainable management of natural resources, such as water, land, energy, and the environment. He is currently the Director of the AFE Environmental and Resource Management Research Cluster, GBS, Griffith University, and the National Secretary of the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES). He is an associate editor of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics (Wiley, Q1) and the IMA Journal of Management Mathematics (Oxford University Press, Q2). Maciej Chorowski Wroclaw University of Technology Poland >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical and Power Engineering at the Wrocław University of Technology with the professional title of Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering - specializing in refrigeration. He became an assistant at the Institute of Thermal Technology and Fluid Mechanics of this university. In 1990, he obtained a doctorate in physics in the field of physics at his home faculty , specialization: technical physics, on the basis of the dissertation written under the supervision of Mieczysław Mieczyński entitled Comparative analysis of Linde-Hampson refrigerators powered by factors of different properties . He was a Member of Personnel of this institution, he held the position of Scientific Associate (1996–1997), he was also the plenipotentiary of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for research infrastructure at CERN (2007) Kleber Lima Federal University of Ceará Brazil >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Francisco Kleber de Araújo Lima was born on November 3, 1968 in Fortaleza. He is an Electrical Engineer (1998) and a Master’s in electrical engineering (2003), from the Federal University of Ceará. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering (2009) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Between 2008 and 2009 he was working with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, in Barcelona, as part of his PhD. From 1987 to 1989, she was with Elettronica SpA (Leonardo Company), Roma, Italy, where she designed microwave integrated circuits. In 1993, she joined the National Research Center CNR as a Researcher, where she was involved in microwave low noise amplifier design. Shouquat Hossain Peking University China >> Biography × BIOGRAPHY Dr. MD Shouquat Hossain received his Ph.D. degree at the UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), University of Malaya, Malaysia. Dr. Shouquat has 12 years of experience in research and expertise in various renewable energy projects. He published and contributed several numbers of International Scientific Indexing (ISI) and conference papers with renowned publishers and full-length research articles in peer-reviewed journals. He was a post-doctoral research fellow at UMPEDAC, the University of Malaya, in 2019. He is currently working as a research fellow at Peking University, Beijing, China. His current research focuses on electric vehicles (EV), renewable energy with building applications, MPPT, solar PV efficiency, PVT, PCM, statistical model, micro-smart grid, solar PV efficiency, and real-time control and monitoring. Dr. Shouquat is a member of different professional bodies. He is an active member of IEEE and the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET). He also attended a post doctorial research program at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Canada between 2004 and 2005. Because of his high-impact scientific researches, he was awarded by the Research and Technology Council of Turkey, TÜBİTAK in 2006.
