PNGIMR conducts approved research on the effectiveness of medicines and advises
the Government of PNG on their suitability for Papua New Guinea
Our researchers access scientific books and journals in our library and online
PNGIMR studies infectious diseases in laboratories for bacteriology, virology,
molecular biology, immunology and entomology
PNGIMR conducts research into the causes of the major diseases in the country
PNGIMR's researchers and administrators stay up to date through an in-house
training program
PNGIMR's headquarters is in Goroka and we have offices and laboratories in
Madang, Port Moresby, Kokopo, Wewak, Maprik, and Alotau






CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION & TREATMENT IN PNG

On International Women’s Day 2024, the DevPolicy Blog published an edited
extract from the 2024 Ruth Bishop Address by PNGIMR’s Research Fellow Dr Pamela
Toliman. PNGIMR is proud to reproduce Dr Toliman’s edited address here. I want
to start by saying four names — Josephine Toliman Rengkio, Immaculata Tolman
Kereku, Patricia Tolman, Ludwina Tolman Hanamo — four women, my aunts, who lost
their lives to cervical cancer.

INFECTIONS & IMMUNITY

We conduct cross-disciplinary research on the most important infectious diseases
in PNG, focusing on respiratory and enteric infections.
