VETERAN JOURNALIST THALIF DEEN TAKES OVER AS IDN ADVISOR

BERLIN (IDN) — Veteran journalist Thalif Deen has been appointed IDN-InDepthNews
Advisor on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Arms Control Issues & Senior Writer at
the United Nations. IDN is the flagship of the Non-profit global media agency
International Press Syndicate. He has been covering the United Nations since the
late 1970s.

Beginning with the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, he has covered
virtually every major UN conference: on population, human rights, the
environment, sustainable development, food security, humanitarian aid, arms
control and nuclear disarmament.

ANNUAL COMPILATIONS OF TWO SGI-SUPPORTED PROJECT ARTICLES

'Toward A Nuclear Free World'

This Report is a compilation of independent and in-depth news and analyses by
IDN from April 2020 to March 2021. 2020-2021 was the fifth year of the INPS-IDN
media project with the SGI, a Buddhist NGO with headquarters in Tokyo.

But IDN has been a party to the joint project, first launched in 2009 in the
wake of an agreement between the precursor of the International Press Syndicate
(INPS) Japan and the SGI.

'Target 2045: A New Rallying Call for Nuclear Weapons Elimination' was the theme
of a Webinar co-sponsored by the Basel Peace Office, IDN-InDepthNews,
Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND), UNFOLD
ZERO and #wethepeoples2020 on November 2.  It explored the political value of
setting 2045, the 100th anniversary of the United Nations, as the target date by
which the global elimination of nuclear weapons should be achieved, if not
before.

socio-economic impact of COVID-19 crisis to its two-billion-strong audience,
says a UN Sustainable Development Blog post, and singles out IDN (In-Depth News)
for reporting on how ecosystems and human health intersect.

NEW YORK – The SDG Media Compact, an alliance of news and entertainment
companies convened by the United Nations to drive coverage and mobilize action
for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), welcomed its 100th member.

RECONNECTING WITH TOKYO

Ramesh Jaura, Editor-in-Chief and Director-General of INPS and its flagship
agency IDN-InDepthNews, spent five days (24-29 November 2019) to personally
reconnect with long-term media partners in Tokyo, the Soka Gakkai International
(SGI).

In warm-hearted meetings with Mr. Hirotsugu Terasaki, SGI Director-General,
Peace and Global Issues, and Vice President and Chair of the Peace Committee of
Soka Gakkai – with whom the first contact was established in 2009 – Ramesh Jaura
was accompanied by Katsuhiro Asagiri, INPS Japan President, Multimedia Director
of INPS.

SGI ANTI-NUCLEAR EXHIBITION IN KAZAKHSTAN, FIELD TRIP TO FORMER NUCLEAR TEST
SITE

2019 marks the 30th anniversary of the end of nuclear weapons testing in
Semipalatinsk, the primary testing venue for the Soviet Union's nuclear weapons,
the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on a
Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, and the ratification by Kazakhstan as
the 26th country to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
