Frequently Asked Questions

What is SETC?

The Self-Employed Tax Credit is a special tax credit introduced by the IRS
designed to provide support to self-employed individuals affected by the
COVID-19 pandemic. Those eligible can claim up to $32,220 tax-free!

It is a part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) of March
2020.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was signed into law on March
18th 2020, in response to the economic impact of the pandemic. It mandated
employers to provide paid sick leave to employees who were affected by the
pandemic, and provided tax credits for doing so. It also allows self-employed
individuals to claim these tax credits, something most people have not done yet!

How much can I expect to get from the SETC?

We see an average funding of around $17k out of the maximum $32,220. This amount
really depends on your income level as well as how many days the pandemic
impacted your work. People with dependents also get more on average.

Who qualifies for the SETC?

You can qualify for the SETC if:

1. You were self-employed during 2020 and/or 2021

2. The COVID-19 pandemic affected your work

You are considered self-employed if you're a:

- Sole proprietor

- 1099 subcontractor

- Single-member LLC

- Freelancer

- Indepedent contractor

- Gig worker

- etc

Was your ability to work impacted because you:

- Had Covid-19

- Experienced Covid-like symptoms

- Underwent testing for Covid-19

- Were in quarantine

- Were in lockdown

- Were caring for another person (child, spouse, elder etc.) who experienced any
of the above

- etc

Is SETC a loan or a grant?

The SETC is not a loan or a grant, it’s a tax refund. You don’t pay it back and
you don’t pay taxes on it.

Is there a lot of paperwork for me to do?

Not at all. For Gig Worker Solutions to file on your behalf all you need to do
is upload tax returns from 2020 and 2021, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Are all 3 years (2019, 2020, 2021) required for the SETC filing?

No, if you only want to file for 2020 or 2021 you only need the tax return for
that year. Note: If your income was higher in 2019 than in 2020, you can claim a
higher credit based on your income in 2019. The same goes if your income was
higher in 2020 than 2021.

Do Gig Worker Solutions charge an upfront fee?

No, Gig Worker Solutions does not charge anything upfront. You only get charged
20% AFTER you receive your money.

How long does it take to get the credit rom the IRS?

Currently, the average processing time for the IRS is 18-22 weeks, so around 5
months. However, Gig Worker Solutions offers an advance option where you can get
your money in as little as 10 days.
