What’s the difference between “inside delivery” and “white glove”? “Inside delivery” requires the driver to bring the cargo across the access threshold and no further. “White glove” delivery may involve shipments being placed in “room of choice”, move cargo within a structure including stairs and elevators, customized installation of cargo, breakdown of shipment, and/or removal of dunnage. 2. How are shipping rates calculated? Rates are generally calculated by the mile, but in some cases hourly and flat rates may be necessary depending on the service level. 3. What is a BOL? A bill of lading (sometimes abbreviated as B/L or BOL) is a document issued by a carrier (or their agent) to acknowledge receipt of cargo for shipment. 4. What does LTL mean? Less than truckload (LTL) freight refers to the transportation of products or goods that do not require a full truckload. These smaller freight loads typically result in many separate shipments being transported on one truck. 5. What’s the difference between LTL and Volume? Volume LTL shipments are again, larger than a typical LTL shipment, but still, don’t take up the room of a full truck. These shipments consist of 6 or more pallets, weight over 5,000 pounds and/or occupy more than 12 linear feet. These shipments are smaller than a partial truckload but larger than LTL. 6. What is dedicated trucking? Dedicated trucks move cargo from the origin pickup point to the destination delivery point without stopping unless for fuel, sustenance, or rest (other exceptions would be traffic incidents/natural disaster/equipment failure/acts of god). 7. Can freight be stacked? This determination involves a variety of factors. Important considerations would be crush resistance, product dimensions, and staging methods. 8. How do I determine freight class? There are 18 freight classes. They are determined by weight, dimensions, density, storage capability, ease of handling, value and liability from instances like theft, damage, breakability and spoilage.
