So it seems from the sheer number of emails I get that many people are not happy
with the new icons in Windows 10 Technical Preview. Most users complain about
ugly Recycle Bin icons and bright yellow folder icons.

Personally, my favorite icons were in Windows XP. I simply don't like any of the
icon sets which came after Windows XP. And I still do not like the default
icons. Today, we will replace Windows 10 icons with the ones from Windows 8 (or
Windows 7, which are mostly the same). This tutorial will be helpful for people
who are looking for a way to make Windows 10 look like they want. RECOMMENDED:

First, we need to obtain icons from Windows 8. I extracted and uploaded them for

Laplink PC Mover. It evidently merged the Win 7 desktop with the Win 10 one.
(Laplink instructions says that is what it does, I just couldn’t visualize how
that would play out in reality.) Now the properties menu has the buttons to
change icons.

Better yet it moved all my customized icons over to the new system, sweet! I
don’t know how this would be useful to someone who isn’t transferring to a new
system from an old one but it was worth the $59 for the program. It was quick,
once I set all the options for the move. (very detailed customization) No
downside, and the added and unexpected benefit of getting my beloved icons back.

I have done probably 20 jobs over the years where we removed a window and

Walton When I was making plans to remove a set of sliding patio doors in our
master bedroom and replace them with a single, half-lite door, my wife was
concerned that it would be too dark in the room. After she refused to wear the
provided headlamp, I had to admit she was right and started making plans for
Phase 2 of the project.

Of course I had little idea what Phase 2 might be, but I talked about it with
the same air of confidence you hear from guys you see on viral video montages
before doing permanent damage to themselves. I considered various forms of
lighting, which were vetoed by my life-long companion as she groped her way
through a maze of bedroom furniture. She missed the brilliance of the natural
light. Not wanting to start another major remodel project, I relied on one of my
go-to fixes: Glass block. When done right, a pair of glass block windows would
lighten the mood in the room while providing minimally invasive access to the
abundant natural light on the other side of the wall.

Glass Block Features There are some pretty cool advantages to using glass block.
First of all, their double-pane construction makes them naturally (see what I
did there?) energy efficient and a good sound barrier. You can put glass blocks
together to make a variety of rectangular shapes, which for some projects means
you can decide on size as you go.

In our case, we wanted to keep the openings between stud bays to avoid the need
for headers and concerns about structural support for the second floor above.
The obscure glass also gives you built-in privacy. There’s no need for window
coverings, but window coverings can certainly be employed for room darkening or
for decorating purposes.

The primary disadvantage to a glass block window is that it can’t be opened
unless you order it custom-built from the manufacturer. If you install a fixed
window as shown in this article, it won’t provide ventilation or egress in the
event of an emergency. You’ll still need a second door or an active window to
provide these in a bedroom. Installation Options Techniques for installing glass

You can use mortar to build glass block walls or special spacers to help lock
blocks together when the structure involves several rows and columns. Since we
used a single column of blocks for each window, we did not need to be concerned
about the horizontal block-to-block connections. Each block would be thoroughly
held in place with the vertical window stops. Weather-tight seals were the only

These we sealed with clear silicone caulk. On this project, the installation
process was pretty straightforward.

We planned to make the window surround/frames with boards that were about one
inch wider than the thickness of the wall. The idea was to be precise enough in
cutting the openings to eliminate the need for casing. The extra 1/2 inch
protruding through the wall provided a shoulder so the surrounds could be sealed
to the wall surfaces with caulk. One of the things that made this job quicker
was the pre-primed pine boards we found for the window frames.

These were primed on both sides with white primer, which helped provide added
reflective characteristics to the inside of the window opening and ensured
minimal moisture penetration to guard against warping. The plan was to build
boxes to house the glass blocks, use the boxes to mark the openings, cut through
the wall, nail in the boxes, stop in the blocks, seal with caulk and paint. The
project went well, the room is brighter and in the end I was right. Remember,
when a project leaves you in the dark, tell your people, “That will be handled
in Phase 2.” Here’s how we got it done: The most common glass blocks are square
with obscure glass and generous pockets of sound- and temperature-insulating air
between the walls. I started the installation with plans to build the surround
boxes and use them as templates to lay out the openings in the wall. First step
is to measure the set of blocks laid end to end. I chose to use three blocks per
window on this project.

Next, cut four pieces of primed pine about 1/8 in. Longer than the set of blocks
to allow wiggle room to fit the blocks in the box.

Put the blocks between the vertical boards and measure to get the length for the
horizontal boards, which overlap the thickness of the verticals. Cut all of the
horizontal and vertical surround boards before assembly. Nail the surround
boards for each window together to form a box. Test the set of three blocks in
the surround to check the fit. Take measurements both inside and outside the
house to find the right location for the windows. Use one of the boxes to lay
out the location of the first window. Drill a hole with a long bit all the way
through the wall to indicate the elevation of the top surround board.

CAN I INSTALL EXCHANGE 2010 ON SBS 2003 WORKSTATION

In my previous two articles ( & ) I explained how to integrate Exchange Server
2010 into an existing Exchange Server 2007 environment. The articles dealt with
changing the message flow from the Exchange 2007 Hub Servers to the Exchange
2010 Hub Servers, and how the access methods are impacted when transitioning to
Exchange 2010. In this final article, I’ll explain the process of moving all
your resources to Exchange Server 2010, and how to decommission the ‘old’
Exchange 2007 environment.

Moving Mailboxes Moving mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 is
relatively easy, especially in a transition process like our example. I actually
explained the internals of moving mailboxes in a some time ago. As you are
presumably aware, Exchange 2007 resources are managed from the Exchange 2007
management tools, i.e.

The Exchange Management Console and the Management Shell. Exchange 2010
resources, on the other hand, are managed from the Exchange 2010 management
tools, and you cannot manage Exchange 2007 resources from the Exchange 2010
management tools, or vice versa. The good thing is that if you are fortunate
enough to have a management server, you can install the management tools of both
versions on the same machine, and thereby save yourself some trouble. To move
mailboxes from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, you have to initiate the move
from the Exchange 2010 Management Shell or Management Console.

• Logon to the Exchange 2010 Server and open the Exchange Management Console. •
Navigate to the recipient configuration and click Mailbox. In the results pane,
a list of mailboxes appear, and if there are a large number of mailboxes, then
you can create a filter on the view. For example, you can view only the
mailboxes in a particular mailbox database. • In the results pane, select a
mailbox, right-click on it, and select New Local Move Request • A wizard
appears, pre-loaded with the mailbox you just selected. In the Target mailbox
database field, select the Exchange 2010 Mailbox Database and click Next to
continue. Move the mailbox from Exchange 2007 to the Mailbox Database on
Exchange 2010 • The next step is to specify what Exchange has to do when corrupt
messages are found in the source (Exchange 2007) mailbox.

It can skip the mailbox, which is the default, causing Exchange will stop moving
the mailbox. You can also skip just the corrupted messages, but then you have to
enter the maximum number of messages to skip. I usually leave this with its
default setting, so when corrupted messages are found, the move process is
skipped for that particular mailbox. Click Next to continue; • A summary is
shown and, when all is well, you can click New to actually start the Move
Request. After 10 to 20 seconds, the move request is created and submitted, and
the wizard is finished. The actual moving of mailbox data still has to start, as
it is only the move request that has been initiated (the actual move will take
place in the background). To view the status of the move request, select Move
Request under recipient configuration in the Exchange Management Console.

select all the move requests and click on Clear Move Request.

Now all of the mailboxes are on Exchange Server 2010. Moving other resources In,
the Offline Address Book generation server was already moved to the Exchange
2010 Mailbox Server. Given that Address Lists, E-mail Address Policies, Accepted
Domains etc are more or less the same in Exchange Server 2010, these do not need
any attention at this point. However, you do have to take care of Transport
Rules and Journaling Rules.

and imported into Exchange 2010 when you install the Hub Transport Server role,
but there are circumstances where you have to do this manually. To migrate
Transport Rules from Exchange 2007, logon to the Exchange 2007 Hub Transport

transport rules are now visible on Exchange 2010 At this stage, you have
essentially migrated your entire message environment from Exchange Server 2007
to Exchange Server 2010, so it’s time to look at decommissioning the old
environment. Removing Exchange Server 2007 To start with, since all Public
Folders are replicated from Exchange Server 2007 to Exchange Server 2010, it’s
time to decommission the Exchange 2007 Public Folder Database. You cannot just
delete this Public Folder database since it still contains a replica of this
data, and the Exchange 2007 Mailbox Database still has a referral to the
Exchange 2007 Public Folder database.
