Give Now NEVER DOUBTWHAT SMALL CAN DOTHIS SEASON 1. 2. 3. 4. MEET NAVY A rare immune system disorder kept little Navy in hospital for over a month. But this fearless 2-year-old took her treatments in stride—and thanks to a donor-supported program, she gets to be home for the holidays. What’s next? Tackling a bone marrow transplant in the new year. Read more MEET MAGGIE Maggie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma after a ski accident landed her in the hospital for x-rays. She’s since weathered the challenge in a way that continues to impress her family. While Maggie is still on her mighty journey home, she isn’t letting that stop her from pursuing her passion: arts and crafts. MEET XAVIER The holidays aren’t easy for cancer patients, even if they get to spend time at home. But Xavier is grateful to be with family. He’s also grateful for his neighbours, who once surprised him with pizza when they heard he was craving it. MEET AIVYN Aivyn’s family has always felt that the holidays should be spent at home, with loved ones. So when Aivyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia as a toddler, they knew that their second home would become the hospital. Previous Next × MEET NAVY A rare immune system disorder kept little Navy in hospital for over a month, but it could have been for much longer. Thanks to the Pediatric IV Outpatient Therapy (PIVOT) program, Navy is now able to receive her treatments from the comforts of home. It’s given her family one of the biggest gifts they could ask for: the chance to have their daughter home for the holidays. While Navy is making incredible progress, her journey to recovery isn’t over yet. In the New Year she’ll require a bone marrow transplant at BC Children’s Hospital. But for now, Navy is home with her family. That’s because of compassionate donors, who not only support programs like PIVOT, but power rare disease research happening right at the hospital. THE MIGHTYJOURNEY HOME Give Now WHY US Over 130,000 kids rely on BC Children’s Hospital every year. Here is just some of the work being done to improve care and change lives. LOOKING BEYOND SURVIVAL LAST YEAR, 150 KIDS In BC were diagnosed with cancer. BC Children’s has the best survival rates in Canada for childhood cancers, but best isn’t good enough. The top oncology minds are studying how a child’s genetic makeup affects their response to treatments. Their goal: develop new tailored therapies that help kids not only survive cancer, but thrive as well. COMBATTING CHRONIC CONDITIONS OVER 2,500 KIDS in BC live with diabetes, a lifelong disease. Researchers at BC Children’s are working to not only treat, but cure diabetes by using a child’s own pancreatic beta cells. UNRAVELING THE MYSTERIES OF BRAIN HEALTH 70% OF ALL MENTAL HEALTH issues begin in childhood. Researchers are racing to deepen their knowledge of the mind’s inner workings to help the 95,000+ children and youth who are experiencing mental health issues in our province—including the 60% who don’t yet receive the specialized care they need. HEALING BROKEN HEARTS ONE IN 100 BABIES are born with a heart defect, putting them at risk of sudden cardiac arrest. By using a single blood drop, BC Children’s scientists are able to replicate a child’s heart cells in a petri dish. Now, they’re using these cells to determine the most effective treatments for kids on an individual basis. Help empower experts who are working to transform the future of child health care. Together, we can help more kids on their mighty journey home. Donate HELP MAKE US MIGHTY Never underestimate the impact you can make for kids across BC and the Yukon.
