By 1971, Bell scientists led by Michael Tompsett had the ability to catch images
with easy direct gadgets. Numerous companies, consisting of Fairchild

granted the 2010 National Medal of Technology and Development, for pioneering
work and electronic innovations including the design and advancement of the very
first CCD imagers.
