TED Talk: A Quantum Revolution in Education
Nov 28, 2022

In education, big problems such as achievement gaps and declining student health
have been addressed with numerous reforms, but after a couple of decades of
doing so we have seen little to no improvements. NCSS Board President Mark
Vondracek believes it is time to take Thomas Jefferson's advice that "a little
rebellion now and then is a good thing," as we are in need of an educational
revolution on par with the quantum revolution in science from over 100 years
ago. He suggests a shift in our mindset about how we think of and interact with
students, in order to kick-start a 'quantum revolution' in education.

The Quantum Mechanics of Education & School Safety…Huh???
Jan 3, 2022

We need a paradigm shift away from the traditional ways of ‘doing school,’ and
instead put students’ mental and emotional health on an equal footing as
academic content. One way of doing this is to consider the Quantum Mechanical
Student and Pedagogy over the traditional way of doing school.

Embedding SEL Skills in Content Lessons
Mar 11, 2021

In the COVID era we are now living through, it has become abundantly clear that
many of our children are hurting emotionally. If you’re a teacher who has been
doing classes remotely the past year, it is likely obvious many more students
have their cameras turned off, are behind in their schoolwork, have not been
speaking during class or even in breakout sessions if you use Zoom, and may have
even had students (and sometimes parents) reach out to you privately and
directly telling you about any number of possible issues going on in their
personal and family lives.

Evidence SECD Helps Students
Jun 4, 2020

The National Coalition for Safe Schools (NCSS) advocates for the inclusion of
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies and skills, as well as Character
Development, or SECD for these combined programs, as key pieces of the puzzle
for making schools safer and making our children happier and healthier. With
improved feelings of safety, and being happy and healthy, one would expect
students also learn better and learn more.

about survival. There's a real life threat for many of my children just to get
