The SIM Registration Act (SRA) is a new law that requires all SIM owners to register their SIM so they can use their SIMs for mobile internet, call and text. All SIMs, including those in card and electronic form used for mobile phones, prepaid WiFi kits or other devices, need to be registered. If not, a SIM will not be activated and customers will not be able to use it. The law is there to protect consumers from illegal activities such as scams, smishing, and other kinds of mobile phone and online fraud. These have proliferated because criminals are able to use prepaid SIMs without registering any of their personal information, and so they can use these SIMs without being identified and getting caught. Under the law, all SIMs sold by telcos, authorized distributors or resellers will be in a deactivated state and will only be activated once the SIM buyer registers the SIM in the authorized registration platforms. What information are required to register SIMs? Before you start the registration process, please prepare the following information: * Full name * Date of Birth * Gender/Sex * Address * Type of government ID presented + ID number * Valid government ID with photo (max file size: 4MB) If you are registering under a company name, the Authorized Representative should prepare the following information: * Full name of the Authorized Representative * Date of Birth * Sex * Nationality * Company Name * Company Address * Type of Government ID presented + ID number * Valid government ID with photo (max file size: 4MB) * Certificate of Registration / DTI Registration (max file size: 4MB) * Board Resolution / Proof of Authority designating the authorized representative OR a Special Power of Attorney (max file size: 4MB) You will also be asked to certify that the information you are providing are true and correct. What kinds of identification cards will be accepted to register SIMs? The following are the official ID cards that will be accepted in registering SIMs, with a maximum file size of 4MB: * Passport * Philippine Identification System ID, or the Philippine Identification Card * Social Security Service ID * Government Service Insurance System e-Card * Driver’s license * National Bureau of Investigation clearance * Police clearance * Firearms’ License to Own and Possess ID * Professional Regulation Commission ID * Integrated Bar of the Philippines ID * Overseas Workers Welfare Administration ID * Bureau of Internal Revenue ID * Voter’s ID * Senior citizen’s card * Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card * Person with Disabilities card or * Other government-issued ID with photo What happens if I fail to register my SIM before the deadline? If you are unable to register your SIM before the deadline of April 26, 2023, the SIM will be deactivated permanently. When your SIM is deactivated, you will no longer be able to use your text, call, data, and other mobile services. All load and current promo registrations will be forfeited. For Postpaid customers, your data and information are deemed included in our platform and we shall get in touch with you to confirm and complete your registration details to align it with the requirements of the law. I am a Globe Postpaid/Platinum/Business Postpaid customer, do I have to register my SIM? As a Globe Postpaid, Globe Platinum, Globe LTE@Home, and Globe Business postpaid customer, your data and information are deemed included in our platform. We shall get in touch with you to confirm and/or complete your registration details to align it with the requirements of the law at a later time. How long do SIM users have to register their SIMs? All existing mobile phones, broadband, prepaid WiFi (ex. Prepaid Internet Kit (PIK), Pocket WiFi), and myBusiness Fixed Budget Plan subscribers are given until April 26, 2023 to register their SIMs with their respective telco. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) may extend the registration period for 120 days, though this has yet to be confirmed.
