Got a Livongo welcome kit in the mail today after succumbing to my workplace's
email annoyances winning out over my health concerns... I gotta say, it's an
impressive piece of kit, including a glucose monitor (and supplies: 100 lancets,
150 test strips, and control solution), blood pressure cuff, and scale, which
are all individually LTE-enabled. For free with insurance. No pairing, no random
BT-LE connectivity issues, no smartphone required, no internet connection
required, and you can do just as much if not more on their website as you can do
in the app- You could feasibly go to a public library to manage your data.

Then, of course, I started looking into how hackable the devices were, wondering
what kind of shenanigans I could get into or the possibility of
liberating/exporting my data to other ecosystems, and stumbled upon a thread
showing that the glucose monitor has a serial-over-USB interface, but didn't get
much further than that in results.

And then, I ended up finding the manual for the scale, wondering if it was also
cellular after the app had suggested I still needed to "activate" it, and

I think this means my new biometric monitoring equipment is Right to Repair

I just saw MsCupcakes streaming #HorizonForbiddenWest on PC and I think it's the
first #VideoGame I've seen with granular difficulty settings explicitly listed
in the menus. You can apparently set difficulty in combat independently of
difficulty in exploration. It also lets you change how aggressively it suggests
hints/gives you the solutions to puzzles vs letting you struggle to figure it
out on your own.

Is that normal for AAA games these days? Because that's really awesome and I
absolutely wish that more games came with stuff like that instead of relying on
the modding community to figure it out. There's also a bunch of convenience and
#accessibility settings which is also cool.

Mastodon now supports automatic switching between the light and dark theme,
depending on your system setting.

It will be available in the upcoming 4.3 version, or is already there if your
instance runs the nightly code.

You can switch to this new automatic theme in your Appearance preferences.
Instance admins can also set it as the default theme (I just did it on
mastodon.social and mastodon.online).

This has been done in https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/29748, thanks a
lot to @nshki@oisaur.com for the initial PR!

Another recently merged feature is the new "severed relationship" notifications.
Those will appear when a moderator or admin blocks a user or a whole domain and
this action caused you to loose some follows or followers.

Those blocks used to be invisible to users, you maybe saw your follows/followers
count decrease but nothing more. Now you can access a list of those blocks, and
download a CSV file with the list of impacted accounts.

Noisy plagiarism machines and copyright both hurt archival. So a copyright maxi
approach is an inadequate response to that threat. in an underfunded but
copyrighted world, we will end up with vanishing works.
Also: classism. If the cost of breaking the law is money, rich gets away and
poor person goes to jail.

I think we're approaching this collective brainstorming all wrong. We're not
going to solve the xz problem by throwing pennies at burnt out over worked hobby
maintainers or by making them jump through extra bureaucratic hoops in the name
of security theater. There's only one reasonable solution here and it's to turn
maintaining critical open source projects into REALITY TELEVISION.
