What if I’ve been out of school for a while?

That’s okay! At Southern Careers Institute, we have had a plethora of students
successfully complete their programs after being away from school for long
periods of time. We’re ready to meet you where you’re at, providing a
community-based learning environment where you’ll feel right at home as you
readjust to life as a student!

What makes Southern Careers Institute different?

We give students an alternative to costly, four-year degrees. Employers are
looking for specific skills from applicants they can hire with confidence. Our
coursework goes deeper than pen and paper, providing learning opportunities that

Can I use my GI Bill® to pay for my program?

Certain programs qualify for use of your GI Bill®. To find out which programs

What steps should I take to ensure a smooth transition from military service to
college life?

We recommend that you meet with one of our academic advisors to create an
education plan that works for you and your unique goals. Give us a call at

We have online programs available on a year-round basis such as our Business
Administration and Computer Support Specialist programs.

Is SCI accredited?

SCI is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education and
approved by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Is there financial aid available?

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. 

Financial assistance encompasses a range of options, including grants,
scholarships, loans, work study programs, military tuition assistance, or
Veteran education benefits. These resources supplement the student’s financial
contribution towards their educational expenses.

Where are the campuses located? Is there an online option?

Southern Careers Institute has several campuses. They are located in Austin,
Brownsville, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, Pharr, San Antonio North, San Antonio
South, and Waco.

We do offer online options such as our Business Administration and Medical
Billing and Coding programs.

How does my child apply?

To apply, complete the online application at https://scitexas.edu/apply-now/,
speak with an admissions advisor, and supply proof of a high school diploma and
any other applicable transcripts. 

Is academic advising available?

Students have access to a wide variety of academic resources, including tutoring
services and technological assistance. Furthermore, job readiness training and
career advising is available from our trained faculty.

Can my child take a campus tour of their preferred SCI campus?

Students are required to take a campus tour. To schedule your child’s tour

Can my child transfer to a different program within SCI?

SCI understands that students may choose to pursue a different career field
while at SCI and allows students to transfer from one program to another.



Career Training

What is SCI’s relationship with local businesses and industries?

We have close relationships with many Texas industries, as well as national
partners. There will be many opportunities for students to connect with these
employers – for example, at our community career fairs. 

Does SCI help with the job selection process?

SCI helps students every step of the way with the job selection process. We
offer academic counseling, as well as many opportunities for students to get
connected with employers. SCI also offers badges to students with high
achievement, allowing them to appear more marketable to employers.

Are there any specialized career development programs offered for students?

SCI offers many opportunities for real-world education and experience. For
certain programs, externships are offered through the institute. SCI Career Hub
is a program for students to explore job postings from exciting employers. 

How will SCI help me pass my certification exams?

SCI offers many opportunities for students to get prepared to take their
certification exams and assists in scheduling these exams. SCI also offers
badges to students with high achievements, allowing them to appear more
marketable to employers.
