DEMOCRATS SEEK $170 BILLION IN SCHOOL, COLLEGE AID IN STIMULUS

Democrats want to give K-12 schools almost $130 billion and colleges almost $40
billion for pandemic relief under a draft of legislation they’re pushing to
respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
The text from the House Education and Labor Committee, released Monday, is the
first version of a measure to be incorporated into the $1.9 trillion coronavirus
stimulus.
K-12 schools would be required to reserve at least 20% of the aid to remedy
learning loss among students stuck at home for much of the last year through
options such as summer school or extended school days. Colleges would be
