With 3D lasered tools from SMTEK, a laser introduces the chip shape geometry
into the tool cutting edge. This creates an optimum rake angle that effectively
forms, guides or breaks the chips - depending on what the customer's individual
machining scenario requires.

ONE LASER, MANY POSSIBILITIES.

Among other things, SIMTEK's laser technology enables the insertion of
circumferential chip shape geometries with a constant rake and clearance angle.
This opens up completely new possibilities: Form grooving tools with a high
forming depth or multidirectional machining combination tools (e.g. grooving and
longitudinal turning, "Parisian grinding") can now be used reliably and
economically. but 3D lasered chip geometries also demonstrate their advantages
under difficult conditions, such as high cutting speeds, small diameters or high
heat input.
